I work in Raleigh in some office condos that are more than 20 years old and have had several different types of businesses in them off and on over the years. Out back we have noticed a distinct smell of natural gas. It is not all the time but often enough that several people have noticed it. We also have had alot of us complain of headaches and nausea at times. Being that the flu is upon us, it may be hard to determine where it is coming from. To my knowledge, none of the businesses use natural gas but that does not mean that gas lines do not run under ground through our area. Could this be the cause of our "ailments"? I let my boss know and took him outside to try to catch a whiff but it wasn't "in the air" at that moment. He is a rather "aloof" person and I'm not sure what he'll do. We have alot of people that go out there and smoke as well . Being that I do not own the business, can I call and ask about it or should I wait and see what he is going to do?
Not sure who to call (I think Progress Energy is only for electricity), but I'd find out and call them myself and tell them I smell natural gas. They will send out a truck and will test the air (their instruments are more sensative than our noses). Just the odor may not mean a leak. There are pressure releif valves that are there to prevent a rupture. They will release a bit (enough to smell), but not enough to worry about an explosion.
I think PSNC is the main supplier in this area - that's who we got natural gas from in Selma, and I'm pretty sure they service the Raleigh area, as well.
