Discussion in 'Cat Dog' started by PlasticHandUser, Jul 12, 2005.

  1. THEY SHOWED ERNIE, RICK AND MICHELE KING.

IT WAS A GOOD PIECE. THEY CLAIM THAT THEY WILL BE SWITCHING OVER IN JANUARY.

THEY SHOWED THE GAS CHAMBER AND TOLD ABOUT A PERSON WHO HEARD A DOG DYING IN THE CHAMBER.. IT WAS VERY SAD

THEY SHOWED THE DOGS AT THE SHELTER... THERE IS SO MANY OF THEM! THEY WERE ALL MUGGING FOR THE CAMERA... THAT IS SO SAD BECAUSE THEY WILL ALL GET GASSED.. ITS HARD WHEN YOU PUT A FACE TO THE CHAMBER.

I HOPE THEY REPLAY IT AT 11p...

WAS A SAD SORT OF AFFAIRS. THOSE POOR ANIMALS... NO-BODY TO HELP THEM GET OUT... AND THEN THEY WILL BE GASSED...

    VERY SAD

  2. Animal Shelter To Move Away From Using Gas Chamber

SMITHFIELD, N.C. -- Nearly 3,000 dogs and cats are put to sleep at the Johnston County Animal Shelter every year, with most going into a controversial gas chamber.

About 6,000 residents have signed a petition to ban gas euthanasia, and county officials said they are working toward that. By Jan. 1, the shelter will begin transitioning to lethal injection to euthanize animals.

"The day's coming, I think, when it's going to be mandated, and I think we want to go ahead and be ahead of the curve," Johnston County Manager Rick Hester said. "Any time a pet dies, it's not a pleasant thing."

But Hester said the switch wouldn't preclude the shelter from using the gas chamber in the future, such as when dealing with violent animals.

Michele King is part of a group of county residents opposed to gas euthanasia. She said their public criticism has been met with verbal threats and intimidation.

"I'm concerned for the welfare of these animals," King said. "The animals suffer convulsions, vomiting, angina. There's a long list, and also it is hazardous for the workers."

Ernie Wilkinson, who manages the shelter, said he hopes the facility becomes a model for pet adoption centers nationwide. Public education will be a centerpiece of its operations, he said.

"What we need to do is to educate our people about responsible pet ownership," Wilkinson said.

If they stop using it, wonder what the'll do with it

  4. They wont stop using it altogether. Dogs and cats that they find aggressive will still be gassed

  5. ProGassers - whats wrong the cat got your tongue??
Or... is the chance that they will be switching the most horrible thing to happen in your lives?

Grow up - we've known all along that they havent LIKED using it, and they have wanted to look in to a more modern method of euthenasia.

    This is not new news.

Did you expect anyone to be sad? Upset? Protest?

That is only your misrepresentation of the situation so live with it. :p

We can always go to "she who cannot be named" on the weekend and watch her fire up her chamber if we really need to .... but it is not my thing really. Mayby a road trip to see PETA illegally "off" some puppies and kittens would be more your style?

Wow! How did YOU KNOW about this????

Are you telling me that their was a whole conspiracy thing going on behind the furballs back???

Was this an INSIDE PR0_GASSER underground meeting???

Are the PRO-GASSERS going to try to convince them to keep it and not swtich over in January??

    My guess is yes....

Except 2 great rescue groups. They are the only 2 that help save these unwanted animals.

I was thinking more along the lines of a back scratcher. I used to have one as a kid. I don't think my memory of the back scratcher was positive enough for it to define me, but it was enjoyable.

Great! Did the JCAPL help with that? NOOOOO!

So they ARE NOT GETTING RID OF IT. I tell you this, a group of aggressive dogs in a gas chamber is a dog fight in a box. Dobermans, Rotties, and other "aggressive" breeds have rescue groups devoted to those breeds. They are NOT being contacted at all. And what about feral cats? Anyone from Operation Catnip reading this? ALL feral cats will continue to die by gas! They may not be too friendly with people, but they are good cats. They do not deserve this. Those animals can be sedated easily! They do it at the Durham shelter. They do NOT have a gas chamber for ANY animals!!!!

Wow more threats. Did they not learn from this last year? A government official can get into deep trouble for threatening citizens. I hear he told someone they could go to jail because of their complaints! This is free speech!
