I have a rare day off and thought I would take the family to the Aquarium at Fort Fisher. I've looked at the website, but it's pretty sparse. Has anyone gone there? I'm wondering because I have two teenagers (who really want to go) and it looks to me like it's more geared to smaller children. I'd hate to take a five hour round trip and find out it's not as fun or interesting as we think it will be.

Can anyone tell me what it's like?

My wife, my son, and I enjoyed the trip. Take Harley's advice and go to Elijah's for lunch or dinner. We also enjoyed the one at Pine Knoll Shores

    YEAH! I'm NEVER wrong!

We used to go to the aquarium (when we were little) and we LOVED it.

Another thought, if you haven't left yet is take them to the Battleship!!!!

Fun for the whole family!

    Shake,
Can't speak for Fort Fisher, but the new aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores has been opened about a year, after a multi year refurb. Spent about 30 million to make it user friendly. We joined and will continue to be members. hint...membership also gets you into the NC Zoo for free, as well.

Took my grandson to the aquarium at Ft. Fisher a couple of years ago when he was 12 (not that grandson, another one! ) and he thoroughly enjoyed it, and so did I. I think there is enough to see there that teenagers would enjoy it, too. Then of course there's the battlefield to explore, and the ferry ride was an adventure for Matt. Have fun!

We stayed on Oak Island and took the Ferry to Ft. Fisher. I guess you wouldn't take the ferry if you were going from here. Sorry!

    It'll be a fun trip, anyway. :-D

We just took two classes of 5th graders last Monday as a field trip. My son said "It was cool!". We spent hours there. I also brought my 2 year old and I couldn't drag either one out the door at the end of the day.

They have a small hands on area that they both loved and we saw the divers go in the huge tank and you could ask them questions...

I got bored after a couple of hours, but that is just me!
