Best breakfast in area is at Big Ed's in Raleigh. A triangle landmark. You can't go wrong here. If it is a power breakfast you are looking for this is the place as every weekday during legislature sessions there are always politicians in there for breakfast. Saturday mornings are always very busy. If in Johnston County, Cracker Barrell is about the best option. There is always Jones Cafe on Main Street in Clayton and Rockin Comet Diner on US 70 in Clayton. Both serve good breakfasts.
Last time I ate at Big Eds was right after they changed ownership and it was not all that great. Have they improved since then?
I wish there was some place downtown nice to eat. My guess is what does open on Main Street is more of quick lunch and not so much a good dinner place. The flip side is ok, but they are only open from 5pm-until. I won't go there when they have a band so that limits the time from about 5pm-7pm on those nights.
I went to the Flipside for lunch once, last fall. (It was very good, btw.) Have they changed their hours?
my guess is that it isn't lack of business but lack of capital to sustain themselves until established - most small retail businesses don't begin to operate in the black for 12 to 18 months -- you have to at least be prepared to operate in the red for a period of time and i don't think that is the case for most of these business that open their doors and are gone three months later -- they haven't prepared themselves or set aside capital to stay open while getting established -it comes down to poor planning --
Hmmm. I saw something one evening when I stopped by that said open at 5pm. Kinda assumed that was every day but could be just for whatever day it was I stopped by. I know that the coffee mill is open during the day. Do they serve a lunch?
Nope. We actually stopped at the Coffee Mill looking for the Flipside that day (kinda lost:? ) and they said they don't serve food, and pointed us around to the back of the building.
Flipside serves lunch - Tuesday through Friday: 11:30 to 2:00 p.m.. To call a order in: 553-0123 or 550-0174
Ate there yesterday morning. Same ole faces there. Same good service. It took our meal maybe 5 min to get to us and it was awesome. grits and red eyed gravy.mmmmmmmmm. OMG, bisquits and molasses....mmmmm okay, I am done. When did they change ownership? I thought it stayed in the family, in fact about 2 weeks ago Big Ed was there. Confused,.
Same good food and service Ed Watkins sold the business to Sam. Not sure of Sam's last name. There was a article in the newspaper or on tV but I have googled and can't locate the article. Maybe someone else can find the details. Big Ed's chair and table remains in place and Big Ed can be seen in the restaurant on many days chatting with the customers. Maybe he has not received full payment yet and he continues to protect his interests. The wait staff has many of the oldtimes still around and the food is the same in my opinion. Bet place to have Saturday breakfast in the Triange.
