Hello my 4042 family... many of you that know that my father is fighting cancer right now. I need some prayers for him, I almost lost him the other night. My dad has Renal Cell Carcinoma and has done very well for two years since his diagnosis. Last week he was going to the doctor and fell stepping up on the sidewalk. (He has always had bad knees) not suprising though. The other night he started to act really funny. My mother wanted to take him to the ER but he said no he was just tired. He went to bed and the next morning had no idea who or where he was. She called 911 and when the paramedics found out that he was a Type 2 diabetic they checked his sugar. A normal blood sugar is around 100. His was 10!! He is getting better now, but he nearly died. Please pray for my dad, I am not ready to lose him. Those that know me know that I have had enough tragedy in my life for now. I had a nice vacation planned for him this summer and he cannot go. The idea I need is, we are planning a big party this summer in his backyard. (This is the house I grew up in) In the midst of this giant shindig, my dad will be lounging out by the pool...we hope. Problem is that he cannot stand up from a sitting position very well at all. Is there some kind of great outdoor lounging chair or some other kind of device that can help him out of a big comfy chair? Once he is standing he is ok. He just can't get up well becuase he cannot put any pressure on his knees. Sorry this is so long, but any help would be very much appreciated. As well as your prayers. Thank you so much:grouphug:
I am definitely thinking of you. My mom lost a kidney to renal cell 12 years ago. She lived cancer-free for that long until lung cancer hit with a vengence (she quite smoking almost 32 years prior). I know there is a device that attaches to recliners so I am sure there is something out there. Could you possibly contact a medical supply store? Thanks PirateGirl, I am so sorry about your mom. I know that has to be hard. :grouphug: My dad's cancer has metasticized(sp?) MOVED! from his kidney to his liver, lymph nodes, and lungs, he is on an oral chemotherapy and so far everything is very stable, some of the tumors have even started to shrink. I am praying so hard. I had not thought of something attaching to his chair. I will check that out! I saw these lifting devices, but they are like 3 grand! They look like a hydraulic engine lift. If I thought that would work, I would just take mine down there!:lol: My dad would smack me stupid. He is a um...BIG fellow, so some of the seat lifter things won't work. He has lost a lot of weight just from the chemo, but he is still pretty hefty.
They have those cool camping chairs at Dicks that will let you lay back almost horizontal but you can sit up in them. They are very comfortable and are almost feel like they are rocking as you switch positions. I don't know how easy it would be for a big may to get up but you may want to look at them. I saw some this weekend and they were $69 I think
I noticed on one of the websites they had chairs that lift for larger people as well. I'm not sure of the weight limit on the thing I posted above but I thought it was reasonably priced.

I checked out that seat lifter thing that is portable. They have kinds for larger people, but it looks fairly uncomfortable. I will figure something out I am sure. Yep--that is the one I thought he could move himself up to sitting upright and it would be easy to get up. I want a couple for our family anyway--Thanks for the sale tip at BBBY
