When i met my husband he had a full blooded Rottweiler Male. He bit me a few years ago and since then I have had nothing to do with the dog. My husband was going to get rid of him and I begged him not to since that was the first time I met him.(I know I was stupid) He stays outside in a kennel and can only be handled by my husband. About 2 years ago, we had a friend over and her little boy stuck his hand in the fence ( without us knowing) and the dog bit him. We had signs all over the fence saying beware of dog. Anyway, wake county animal control quarantined him for 2 weeks and my husband bailed him out. The other day, my son was in the yard and my husband had the Rottweiler on a leash. The dog growled and lunged at the child. He did not get him, but it did scare my son. We decided it was time to get rid of him. I know there are rescue shelters to take him to but I know they will put him to sleep since he can't be handled by anyone else. I called the SPCA and they told me that I could get a trainer. I doubt the trainer would be able to handle him. I really hate if for the dog but i have no other choice to take him to animal control. I am really scared of him and I don't want anyone else to get hurt. Has anyone else had problems with an aggressive dog and what did you do?

There are trainers that can help with an aggressive dog ... dont give up hope. Maybe not that he'll be the perfect family pet for you, but at least that he can be re-homed.

Please call Sylvie from K9 Solutions ... 919-779-3813 or email info@nck9solutions.com

If she cant give you a consultation, she may refer you to Donnie Hult of HadNot Creek Kennels ... he has over 25 years of experience, and I've seen him work with aggressive breeds. Tho Sylvie, herself, is AWESOME.

  3. I would opt for the trainer first to work with the dog.

But as a sidebar. Michael Vicks dogs went to a place called BEST FRIENDS it is a no kill shelter out in UT and they will work with the dogs. Most of Vics dogs are ready to be adopted out, and the ones that can not be will stay there the rest of their natural lifes.

We had an issue just like that, with a Beagle. That Beagle found a new home the first time he growled and bared his teeth at my daughter. He had bitten me, my son, and he was food aggressive. He thought the pack order was DH, him, me, and then my son. He was WRONG.

That dog, I swear. He would sit in between DH and I and just glare at me. I would say "that's OK, Duke. I'm sleeping with him tonight!"

I don't regret it one bit. I was NOT having my baby's face stitched back together. Now we have a great dog that loves and respects all of us

You need to talk with Zookeeper. She does in home one-on-one obedience training and working out disipline issues with dogs in addition to her petsitting business. She really knows her stuff!!

Thanks for all the information. Its really weird because its like something in him snaps. My son was feeding him bones and petting him and all of a sudden I heard him growl and my son ran away. When he bit me a few years ago he got loose so I was trying to get him to come to me. I had a bone in my hand and then laid it down so I could grab his collar. Thats when he bit my arm. He didn't get me too hard but he may hurt a kid worse. I don't want to take the chance. I will talk it over with my husband. He is a really sweet dog to my husband and I really want him to be helped instead of killed. If I take him to animal control, I feel like I am killing an animal, even though he is aggressive. My husband loves the dog. When he is eating my husband can even take the food away from him. My husband has raised him since he was a puppy. I just wish he would get along with everyone.
