After visiting several brand-new model homes, the designs in the homes are beautiful. I asked the builder's rep who is the designer, and she said she cannot tell us because they only hire her to decorate their houses. She said it's not their job to find more work for the designer. I'm like, uh??

Any idea how to look for one? Searching the web is tricky.

Try Laurel Lane Interiors (they are local!)

    http://www.laurellane.com

They decorate many of the Parade Homes, are contributing authors for Donald Gardner's home magazine and Sherwin Williams added a line of Laurel Lane paint colors last year. Not bad for right here in our own backyard! 8)

We used someone at Laurel Lane too, but not her... Uggg I cant remember her name. She was a blond lady, very sweet. She was willing to use things we already had around the house as well as suggest new things. Very pleasant and rounded the fees down if we were over the hour mark etc...

Laurel Lane also writes design columns in a magazine for Donald Gardner. Also has a paint line at Sherwin Williams ( or Devon - can't remember which one).

    Many, many parade home winners.

Yep, it's Sherwin Williams. She's actually remodeling her personal home and using her line of colors. They're nice, I think just called the Laurel Lane collection by Sherwin Williams.?

    Beyond the Designer Search

After a voicemail tonight to check out this discussion, I am posting my very first message on 4042.com Yay!....though I rarely find time for discussions in my own home much less on a computer! Please bear with me!

Being a 4042/Cleveland native, I was really shocked at a builder's rep telling CakePrincess that it was not their job to find the designer more business.

Wow, I hope the decorator does not feel the same way about the builder and the rep...what if the decorator wants to send a friend to view this decorating project that is currently in the market for a new house.

I find it hard to believe the decorator works solely for this one builder and if she/he does, then the rep should promote the designer, extend a thank you to the inquirer,

...and if the decorator really just works for the builder, then the rep should simply explain the situation...."Yea, the builder's wife's first cousin's daughter visiting from Michigan watches a lot of the decorating shows and just did the builder some decorating for her senior project." May not be true....but it sure does sound better...

A referral or simple explanation could have lead even more potential business to this rep and builder. The Laurel Lane Interiors referral is much appreciated but instead of "Where do I find a designer?", I feel the bigger concern is... "Where is some good ol' Johnston County hospitality and courtesy these days?"

I second Laurel Lane...they do all of our homes and we always get great compliments on colors, etc. Also, you can shop at her showroom located off of Old Drug Store Rd. Most of her items are VERY reasonably priced! Good Luck with your decorating!!
