I am very concerned about 2 dogs that are chained up outside in the front yard of a house. I drive past this house daily and haven't seen anyone home in at least 4 days. Today as I passed there I decided that on my way home I would get the address and call someone but who? I pulled up in the driveway because the first time I drove past I thought for sure the one dog was dead. He was up when I pulled up and seemed friendly enough but I was still afraid to check his water bowl because I do not know if he bites. The other dog appears to be pretty unfriendly (and very hot). I don't think they have water or food. Is there someone I can call? Thanks for any input.
no. Are there dogs outside in this heat in Southlanding too? I don't understand what is wrong with people!
Well I called and the woman who answered asked me what my complaint was and then said she'd send someone to go check on the dogs. Can I be assured that they will get food and water or should I drive back over there and at least try to give them some water? How soon can I expect them to check on the dogs?
From what I hear, the Johnston County Animal Control folks are generally pretty good at responding to calls. If you pass by anyway, watering them could never hurt and it may just help you sleep tonight!
Make sure to follow up on your call though. They have gotten better, but I think a follow up is always a good idea with any agency. Also, please do not get bitten going over there. It breaks my heart also....Could you bring something over (a few chews) and toss them to the dogs to keep them busy while you water? Also, be careful because of crazy people (the "owners").
While these dogs NEED water, I would call animal control BEFORE you go back out to see if they went by. IF you go and place water and food and AC goes by 10 minutes after you leave it will appear someone is taking care of the dogs. I would imagine AC will be sure to give these dogs some nourishment. If the people do not have shelter - dog houses- they could be in more trouble. Fact is, some people aren't capable of caring for and therefore should not be allowed to keep animals. Ditto with children.
Call up the JCAPL. They surely will bring free dog houses to these dogs in need! Email Zookeeper on this list, give her the address of the dogs, and I'm sure the protection league will "protect" these dogs from the element!
You are exactly right! They are a wonderful organization! Johnston County is very lucky to have the JCAPL! Ya'll ROCK!!!!
No Buddy, wrong again, Animal Control will contact JCAPL if the family can not afford a dog house for their pet. People have to be responsible for the care of their pet. When they can't afford it is when an organization will step in to help. FYI 'Zookeeper' is not on the doghouse committee - thought you knew it all the way you talk.
Not on the doghouse committee??? For a situation like this, isn't the whole group on the DOGHOUSE committe?? Come on! Do something to help these animals! Protect them from this heat!! I never understood any of you people. All the meetings were like a social gathering. I'm not kidding, use some of your funds and give these dogs some dog houses! P.S. Thank you to ???? for telling me to further this discussion on Clayton ONLINE. See you there
wow, you really do need to back off Zookeeper. it's the dogs owners that need bashing. of course i dont see you racing out there to help them.
i know you mean well but....fact is you dont know if these people leave for work before you do and return home after you do. hell their car could be in the shop. sounds like youre getting into someones business that you have no right to be in. the owner will be pissed, and rightfully so, if he comes home while youre trespassing in his yard. i could see that leading to a hospital visit...
You are all wrong, they should call M_K. She will put on her Superhero uniform and save the day (or at least take credit for it after Animal Control shows up and corrects the situation). Here's her official flag, I imagine she uses it has her cape too...
I appreciate all the input I've received. Thank you. I hear what you are saying space but I do know a little about the people that live there. I guess I should have said that in my initial post. And I do know the obvious which is the whole reason for the post ---- there are 2 dogs chained up in their front yard outside with heat indexes over 100 and no activity at the house. I have not pulled back into the driveway but I did drive past again around 6 last night and one of the dogs was practically choking himself on his collar trying to get under the tree for shade and that there was still nobody home. And when I went back by on my way home at 11:15 p.m. the house was still dark and her car (I also know that the woman that lives there is a stay-at-home mom) was still not in the driveway like it usually is. I will not do anything illegal. I will not go onto the property. I just hope that Animal Control helps these animals. I guess I don't know where the line gets drawn between 'minding my own business' and showing concern for these poor dogs. Thanks again...
Family, please follow up with animal control. At least they can check into the matter. I understand there is a fine line between being nosey and being helpful, but it seems you know more info about the situation. I just hope everything works out for the pups. And what's the point of having a pet if they are going to spend their lives on a chain? Makes me sad.
I did call this morning. The lady told me that the gentleman did go there and check on the dogs and left a notice on the door.
