Anyone have an idea on how to get the radio stations change formats? I mean three stations playing the old classic rock, I think that is a little over kill.

www.96x.fm Didn't like living in Norfolk but loved the radio there.

The free market should take care of that shortly. But, if all of the stations continue to make a profit, why change?

I actually received a phone call yesterday asking to do a survey on the local radio stations. The lady was shocked when I told her they all sucked before she could even ask a question. I like alternative Jazz myself I used to love 102.9 The Wind. I hate the stations know. My wife and I have satelite radio and its pretty good.

Mine too, it is amazing how once you get into VA the stations open up 10 fold. There are SO many options there (compared to here).

    Dear RDU Workforce Member,

We wanted to take a minute to confirm that 106.1 RDU is now a thing of
the past, and to thank you for 22 great years of loyalty and support.
We hope the station has brought you a lot of pleasure and enjoyment over
    the years.

Before signing off for good, we wanted to mention a few things to you:

Although we'll no longer be playing rock at 106.1, our sister station
100.7 The River has recently fine-tuned their format and features lots
of great classic rock. You'll find a lot of the tunes and artists
you've enjoyed over the years on RDU at a new address. They're playing
lots of Stones, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Beatles, Zeppelin, etc. and we
think you'll enjoy spending a lot of your listening time with 100.7 The
    River.

And, if you've been a fan of John Boy & Billy and have enjoyed listening
to them over the years, we have great news. The guys will be back on
the air in the Triangle, right here on 106.1, starting on Monday. The
music between their bits will be different, but the comedy and other
elements of the show are as funny as ever.

In closing, thank you again for being a part of our RDU family. It's
been a privilege to bring you the greatest music ever recorded,
outstanding personalities and some pretty cool memories over the past
    two decades.

Good luck to you and your loved ones in the future. Keep rockin'!

    Signing off,

    106.1 RDU
    The Triangle's Classic Rock Station

    RADIO WARS

    RADIO WARS…

106 RDU has gone to The Rooster – COUNTRY
Wonder how Bob The Blade feels about that?
I rarely listened to RDU, (don’t even know if The Blade was still there), but was always impressed with his ability to stay on the air on one station for so long, but speaking of “so long” unless he changes from riding a Rock and Roll Harley to a Country Horse it must be curtains, and who would want to ever switch from an Iron Horse to one that craps in the street.

I’m not a plugged in executive but I think 96rock’s ratings have been doing well lately and must have been nailing RDU’s balls to the wall, (as AC/DC would say), so the big corporate enterprise that is Clear Channel switched 100.7 to mimic the old RDU, (this makes sense now), and have The Rooster 106 locking-and-loading for a country war with Curtis Media’s continually #1 Station, (of all formats), 94.7 “Today’s Best Country”.

This now pits 100.7 “The River” against 96.1 “Everything That Rocks” and it can only mean that The River will be running with blood when 96 beats them senseless with Everything including Rocks.

But when all is said and done, I’ll still be Funky…!

96.1 vs. the river.... really who cares until you lose the 1970's rock you both suck. Led Zep is over. MOVE ON

    www.96x.fm

anyway in life the river turns the rock into a little stone. Thank god for radio on the web and cd players.

odd that you try to use that metaphor while dissrespecting the artists who made what you listen to what it is today. "Led Zep is over. MOVE ON" Really? you're talking about music here, not shoes. sorry, as tired as you are of music history im just as tired of these people who think that music should go out of style like clothes.

Hey music history is great. I totally get that and understand, however I am sick of it on the radio. Esp. in the past two weeks where 3 stations could play the same song in almost 10 mins of each other. The metaphor was in use for two reasons. One the River will out last 96 rock. 96 rock has changed formats a couple times in a couple of years. Two it was kinda of a joke.

I like punk and punk was born out of disgust for the Led Zep type bands and disco. (Please even you (should) hate disco) I don't really want to hear either on the radio. www.96x.fm

    re

We need "JACK" radio. They have one in Chicago and one in WV, that I know of. They play EVERYTHING and it's great. I really miss the old 100.7.

    Re: RADIO WARS

Last ratings period (Spring 2006), WBBB had a 3.7 and WRDU had a 3.1. That hardly qualifies for nailing anything to the wall. (Considering that in fall '05, BBB had a 4.0 and RDU had a 2.3, I'd say the chase was one.)

The major area where BBB is spanking RDU is sales, and that is what really drives the boat. You can have crappy ratings, but if you have a crack sales team that can sell ads anyway, your format isn't going anywhere. Clear Channel has been lagging behind Curtis Media for quite some time in that arena.

The rumor mill says (OK... Wikipedia of all places says) that country is just a continuation of "the stunt". That sometime next week, "public outcry will be so great" that the WRDU calls will be switched to 100.7, where it will continue on as 100.7 RDU. Blade will be back for afternoons, BUT JB&B will be on mornings. I highly suspect, regardless of the rumor mill, that Blade will surface at 100.7 regardless.

106.1 will be flipped to some variation of Urban, with Whoopie Goldbergs new syndicated show holding down mornings.

Why the change? 106.1 has a construction permit moving the transmitter out of Wilson and closer to Raleigh. This increases city grade signal to more of the metro area (including Durham, where 106.1 is currently weak). 100.7 is staying right where it is at... the 3rd more powerful signal in the state, and the 12 most powerful FM signal in the country.

How this plays out will be interesting... but it ain't over yet.

My head hurts trying to keep this straight.

So... WRDU will be on 100.7
Whoopi and rhythm on 106.1 (will that still be the Rooster? )

96.1 is a different company, they'll stay the same, classic rock, with maybe some good stuff every once in a while....

And none of this is for sure, and right now no one is playing alternative.

    Is this right?

That's the rumor. Regardless, 106.1 will be something other than it was on Thursday of last week.

    Yes. Curtis Media Group.

Correct. Especially on the Alternative part... :(
