I'm looking for the following in a small-animal vet: -someone who's open to holistic/nontraditional approaches in conjunction with traditional therapies -someone who can do a quick phone consult and help me determine whether I can wait 24-48 hours to give an issue a chance to resolve before I bring my dog in, or whether it's more urgent and my dog needs to be seen that day -someone whose prices on meds are not marked up 1,800% -someone whose knowledge of nutrition goes beyond Hill's Science Diet I do not mind paying prices on the higher end of the scale if I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. I understand that vets have overhead and some of them, at least, would like to make a small profit. But I'm not going to tolerate 1,800% markups on drugs, or being sent home with the wrong drug dosage/wrong med, or being kept waiting for an hour on more than one occasion. So ... tell me about your vet and, most importantly, why you're a client there. Seems like Stage Road Animal Hospital is pretty popular here. If anyone would like to share vets to avoid, please send me a PM (with your experience, if you'd like to share). Thanks!
Dr Debbie Basden at 4042 right beside the Food Lion - she is great about integrating natural remedies along with medical when necessary - love her:hurray:
Vet Recommendation I would like to recommend the Cleveland School Animal Hospital to you. This is a wonderful facility. There are three vets there. The head doctor there is Dr. Debbie Basden and she has two associates. The entire staff, including the receptionists, vet techs and the veterinarians themselves maintain a very nurturing atmosphere. They are knowledgeable, professional, caring and the fees and prices of meds are quite reasonable. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for great veterinary care. Not only do they supply medical care, they are a great place to board your animal. My beagle puppy, Bailey, absolutely adores them. I wish they treated parrots, as well, so that I had a nearby avian vet also.
Clayton Animal Hospital has several Vets on staff, 2 of them being specialist in small animals...Dr. Smith and Dr. Seachrist. They were great with my rabbit!
Veterinary Mobile Express Dr. Trey Rodgers He is the bomb! Pulls right up in front of your house Charges are in line if not better that taking your babies to the Vet. His # is 577 2243 http://www.veterinaryexpress.com/ tell him Kim sent ya!
Thanks for the recommendations! I will be checking out Dr. Basden's clinic. It's pretty close to us. Unfortunately my experiences with CAH were not positive. I really like Dr. Sechrist, but I can't say the same for the rest of the practice, and I am not going to pay an 1,800% markup on a very common antibiotic. I'm still open to more recommendations though. Thanks!

Go to Stage Road. We like you went to the closest vet and after spending hundreds of dollars decided that we needed a vet that would work with us, had a staff that was caring, thoughtful, and more interested in caring for our pets than having personal time to chit chat. Another great clinic is Robinson Animal hospital. Very professional and caring.
