My parents are in town and I had originally planned on taking them to Angus Barn for dinner (it will be our father's day dinner). My dad looked at the menu online and had a coronary about the prices. So now I need to find someplace else to take them to dinner tonight.

Where do you recommend? We need to be able to get a table or reservations for 6pm. It needs to be less expensive than Angus Barn, but still have good food and great service. Doesn't have to be a steakhouse, but no chinese (other Asian okay) or mexican.

I saw on here that Kaze and Kobe didn't have very good reviews.

    Thanks!

Whichever one is over by Walmart in Clayton (Kobe?) is good, at least I thought so. If you're looking at that kind of place, I don't think you can beat Kanki though. My favorite restaurant is 42nd St. Oyster Bar in Raleigh, but not sure how much cheaper it is than Angus Barn (I've never been to AB before). Other than that, not sure. Hubby loves Carrabas, Outback used to be good but think they've gone downhill the last year or so.

Someone told me months ago that Cheesecake Factory was closing in Crabtree, anyone know if it's still there? I love that place as well, but is usually hard to get into without having an hour long wait. They've got a very diverse menu to choose from.

One of my fav's is McCormick and Schmick's out at Crabtree in the new upper level. Fresh seafood flown in twice a day and they have really good steaks if seafood is not your thing. The menu is printed daily, but they have a few signature dishes that are always the same. My favorite is the atlantic salmon stuffed with crab, shrimp and brie.....to die for! For a chain, they are very good and a nice atmosphere. Also, they have killer cocktails. http://www.mccormickandschmicks.com/

Oh and to compare 42nd St to McCormick's, I've been to both numerous times and they are just "different". To me, McCormick's is just nicer and has much better quality. 42nd St is okay, just more casual to me and more the "fried" seafood type place even though they can prepare stuff however you like. Prices are about the same. Just my opinion8)

 I actually don't eat seafood, I get the steaks there. I just love the place altogether, the atmosphere, never had bad service, and the quality is great. It's a place you can get dressed up to go to, or go with your kids for a nicer night out (if you can afford it!)

Personally, I think McCall's is great! Let's eat!

We decided on Kanki. Which location do you recommend - Crabtree or North Market Square? We're a party of four.

Skylines in Clayton (on the way to Smithfield on Hwy 70). The new chef is the shiznits!

You're 'taking him' to dinner for father's day but he's paying? If not, why should he be worried about the cost?

I would not allow my children to spend that much on my dinner either. That is part of my job, IMO.

As Wayne said, my dad didn't want us spending that much money, especially as we're tight on cash. But he's my dad and obviously well worth every scent.

Kanki was great. They have a coupon on their website for $5 per person, so we got $20 off the order, which covered the 20% tip (which she earned every penny of). The food was fantastic and the service was great. We went to the Market Street Square location, and they had no problem seating us on a corner so that we could talk easily during the meal.
