Unfortunately, I was exactly like that as a child. Now that was 30 some years ago and they ran tests to find out that I had a "nervous stomach". they gave me these little green pills. Now my parents were going through a divorce and alot of things were going on that I did not understand and worried about. Is his enviroment stable? Could he be having an issue with another kid at school? We all know that emotional stuff can mess you up physically. I will pray for him.....I cannot stand to see a child sick or emotionally stressed................I wish you all the best....

If he is 12 they can give him a sedative for the MRI tube. Also has he seen the tube because most places have larger tubes now but a Coil will go around his head either way but only the forehead. However they can give a Valium thru IV to help him relax or a hospital can do a MAC sedation. Also has he spoken with a Psychiatrist or Psychologist? One can give Medicine (there are side effects and can make a young person more depressed if not closely monitored) however a Psychologist cangive his Relaxation techniques. Anxiety can be passed thru the family genes.... anyone else have this issue? He should really see a a GOOD children Psychiatrist and ask for them to NOT ONLY give medication but to send him to someome that can help him overcome these issues... or at least if he can not over come he can COPE with them. Also... PRAYER!!! I hope this helps some! God Bless!

    Macy,

I am a mental health professional, and based on the information you gave, I would recommend that this child be evaluated by a psychologist, social worker, or other therapist. Many times, especially with children, emotional problems are expressed as complaints which appear to have some physical cause. While the physical causes need to be checked out, therapy and/or medications to treat the emotional problem may be the best way to relieve the symptoms. I would be happy to recommend providers in the area who can evaluate your grandson. If you are interested in this information, PM me. Or you can call Johnston Co. Mental Health Center at 989-5500.

    Macy,

I fainted several times as a child and still do to this day if something scares me. I will pass out at the sight of blood also because it unnerves me and it is my body's way of protecting itself by shutting off. I think you are smart to rule out anything that could be wrong medically speaking, but if it comes back that he is fine, I guess some people, like myself, are just wired like that. I hope everything turns out okay!

Some people are definitely wired this way, but you can learn skills for coping with scary things that are a lot less disruptive than fainting. I would recommend talking to a therapist if you are wired this way.
