NeuseCharter To Break Ground On New Three Story Facility

Neuse Charter School, Johnston County’s only charter school will be hosting a Groundbreaking Ceremony on Monday, September 30.

The 3 Story, 33,000 square foot state of the art facility will consist of 15 classrooms, 2 science labs, 2 technology labs and 4 "floating study areas" over a large atrium.

The event will take place at 12:15pm on the campus of Neuse Charter located at 909 Booker Dairy Road. Congressman Mike McIntyre, as well as state and local dignitaries are scheduled to be in attendance.

Utilizing financing from Self Help, USDA, Rural Development and additional loan guarantees from the USDA, Neuse Charter saves Johnston tax payers millions of dollars in school facility costs. The project was designed by Design Development of Raleigh and is being constructed by M. Durwood Stephenson and Associates of Smithfield.

Neuse Charter School was founded in 2006 and opened its doors to students in August of 2007. In August 2011, Neuse opened on the 26-acre campus site and gymnasium on Booker Dairy Road in Smithfield. North Carolina charter schools do not receive state or local funding for land, buildings or other facility needs for their students. All facility funding comes from the operational budget charter schools receive based on the per pupil enrollment at each school.

Neuse Charter is a public, SACS accredited, free-tuition K-12 school open to any child who is a legal resident of North Carolina. The school’s mission is to provide a challenging learning environment, to keep expectations high and to make sure all students achieve their maximum potential. The school offers an international studies and foreign language focus, in addition to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
