http://apnews.fimc.net/showarticlew...ptfam&catg=Triangle&headlines=1&show=10&w=400 I heard this on the radio today, it makes no sense, Why did they build a new bridge over 40 if they are then going to close the road at the Wake County Line? which side of 40 is that on?
The Clayton Bypass cut the road in half, and because of it's proximity to the Cornwallis Road overpass, they probably decided to dead end the road on both sides of the Bypass instead of building an overpass. The term "at the Wake/Johnston County line" is basically the same thing.
So, even with the bridge open, you still can't get thru to Cornwallis? Why did they tear down the bridge, and then rebuild it for this project? The bridge is only 15 (? as old as I 40), years old? A bridge should have a life sapn of decades.
This is crazy. I'm just not getting this. New bridge built, but people coming from Cornwallis trying to cut over to Hwy 50 in Garner can not get through now. (?) What the heck is that for? So, to get to Garner we now must take I-40 to Hwy 70, 10-10 to Hwy 50, or Cornwallis/ White Oak to Hwy 70. That is a major bummer. We used New Bethel all the time to jet on over to Lake Benson, Timber Drive, whatever.
I'm having a blonde moment myself...the way it is right now is a total PITA! The wording is confusing.
Speaking of roadwork on New Bethel, etc., anyone know when the bridge over Cornwallis will be finished, so that we can drive on it and not around it? Just wondering. We cuss that detour every morning....
I know it sucks, but it doesn't seem that New Bethel will connect all the way from Cornwallis to NC 50, ever. The only reason I can think of to tear the bridge down, is to build a bridge that would allow for the widening of I-40, to allow room for ramps from the Bypass. From what I can tell, the Bypass cuts New Bethel in half, and DOT decided not to connect the two parts.
used to use that as a cut through all the time between Cornwallis and 50. I'm not sure what the DOT was smoking when they designed this end of the bypass and the interchange with I40. They rebuilt that bridge instead and added one more section. It is pretty sad that they eliminate a route, seems like there was not much thought put into the local traffic impact.
