My husband and I were driving on the way to Wendell on Buffaloe Road yesterday, we noticed a brand-new school being built - is that going to be a new Corith middle school that it was mentioned here earlier? The school looks like it's going to be finished this summer. The building itself has the same design as Riverdell Elementary, but much bigger, including a huge gym in the back.

Yes it is. It is supposed to be open for Students in August. At one time, they had said Cornith, Riverwood and River Dell were going to feed into it, but I'm not sure if that is still hte case or not.

Is it a middle school or high school? I thought I heard high school. We really need both.

I just called the school board and spoke with Brian and he said it's a new middle school that all kids from corith, riverwood, and riverdell elementary are going to attend there, starting this August.

Brian also want me to contact Anne, who's in charge of school construction, and find out the name of the new school. They have announced it last night at the school board already and Brian wasn't sure what it was.

Brian also stated that a new high school will be built within 6 to 8 years, but the time frame can be changed.

Just thought I'll let you all know.

walloon - I called the school board office again and they said they are working on student assignment plan. My child attends Riverdell - not sure which middle school he's planning to go - Riverwood or a new middle school?

Also, another thing I just learned is that right now, the construction named the school "Northwest Middle School", but it's not an official name. They named Northwest for construction purposes only. They were supposed to announce the new school name last night, but apparently they haven't decide yet. We should be able to find out soon.

Not yet. I will call them again and see if they can tell us anything. I haven't be able to make any phone calls today due to my work schedule. Once I find out, I'll let you know.

According to the Cleveland Post, they are buying land for a new high school in the Corinth-Holders/Archer's Lodge area, as well.

    look in todays n&o

can't link for some reason but in today's (Fri) N&O (City and State) there is a story about the new middle school (open this fall). Already predicting a problem with parents? Public hearing on March 8th at River Dell.

Yes, I saw that article in the paper today. It doesn't clearly say anything if Riverdell students are affected. It'll be interesting to hear the Public hearing soon.

    1270 wmpm's version of it.................................

New Middle School Will Draw Students From 3 Campuses - Many of the students who will attend a new middle school in northwestern Johnston County this fall will be transferred from Riverwood Middle School . The new, yet to be named, school will also draw all the middle school children from Corinth Holders, which has classes for grades K-through-8, but will switch to an elementary school. About 50 students from Selma Middle will attend the new middle school, which should open with almost 700 students. A group of parents and teachers designed the plan, which the public will be able to comment on starting in March. Discussion is also underway as to what to name the new school.

The new High school is off of Applewhite Rd. If you continue on Covered Bridge away from Clayton then turn left on Apple White it will be down a little ways on the left ebfore you get to Lake WEndell Rd. I think that is where it is anyway according to an article way back in the paper. They haven't said yet whcih elem. school will feed into the new middle school. They might be redrawing the lines b/c now Cornith Holders will be able to take more elem. age kids since the middle schoolers will be gone.
