No American History before 1877???

    if you look at the big picture k-12 history curriculum, you find that it's all still covered. the readjustment is due to complaints re: learning modern history. the way i understand it, this is supposed to allow for upper grade level students to learn more recent history as it relates to modern issues, such as the middle east and why we are involved and the history of our relations, etc. i don't think they're actually doing away with prereconstruction history, it's just that they're trying to allow for more modern history as well...

    also, this is a first draft. the state has not even collected feedback from teachers yet. the last time they readjusted the science curriculum, it went through 4 drafts before even being voted on, so it's not like this is the final version or even close to being voted on.

    Not to mention history itself is compounding and will continue to get longer. That will not make any of the events less relevant, however more will need to be covered in the same amount of time.
