I know this may seem random, but I am moving to Clayton in 2 weeks. I will be working for Great Clips. I started thinking that I would like to do hair in a nursing home. I enjoy working with old people and thought this might be a neat way to do it.
There is The Brian Center off of Barbour Mill Rd. in Clayton. I think thats great that you'd like to work with the elderly. I have one great aunt in a rest home, and she always has a little more pep in her step and a little more enthusiasm when she has just gotten her hair done. My mom keeps enough money in her acct so that she can get it washed & styled weekly.
Thanks! I just know that some of my favorite clients are the older women who like you said feel so much better after being pampered. They also seem to connect better with me than some of the other younger girls.
Liberty Commons down in Benson (only 10-15 minutes down I40) also has a 'beauty parlor' set up. I don't know that they have someone there every day. Also, there's a lady who volunteers and does the resident's nails (they love that, and she can't get everyone done each time). Don't know if anyone does that at Brian Center.
The Brian Center has someone that volunteers to do nails. I'm not sure how often though. They currently have someone that comes in once or twice a week to do hair but she can't get everyone done. There is also Britthaven in Smithfield and the place in Fuquqy-Varina, Winston Pointe (?)
Does the hairstylist get paid? I would like to do both if possible. Great clips and the nursing home. Do you have a number I can call?

You could probably just look in the Yellow pages for these types of places and give them each a call to see if they're paid or volunteer positions. I know with my parents - there was a small fee charged, it differed depending on the service (cut, style, perm, etc). I think its a great thing that you're willing to do this - everybody feels better when they're pampered and feel like they look nice. :hurray:
