We have a new phone system in here at work today. Quite clever with a nice little head set and all. Looks real "shnazzy". Goes right thru the computer. Were we trained? Answer: Of course not. Let's just "wing it". Is it fairly easy? Answer: Debatable-depends on whose trying to use it. heh heh heh....Yeah.......It's a BUST. The "Head honcho's opinion on it since it was HIS idea? Answer: "I just can't deal with this right now." Feeling about from the rest of us? Answer: Egg beater in the head and one "melt down". The phone company installer's suggestion? Answer: "I really can't answer that, just get on there and practice." What happens when the computers go down? Answer: Don't call us, we'll call you.........whenever we have a phone again. Any back up phone system? Answer: LLLLOLLOLO Now THAT is funny...... I can hear Mr. Roger's song "It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" right now. Hope your day will go well!!! LOLOLL Mine certainly won't...LOLOL
:grouphug: Try to enjoy your day! We are supposed to upgrading ours soon so we can transfer to/from different company locations. I am sure I will feel your pain then...lol
I just had to trade in my hand set for a softphone that goes through my computer. It doesn't work and no one here supports it yet. Can't get any help so all of us working from home are having to use our personal phones. Not fun.
A lifetime or so ago I worked for a division of a Fortune 100 company. We had a phone transfer station for the whole area get fried in a storm, which knocked out all phone lines, including the data transfer from our mainframe to the satellite locations. The president of our division booked a floor of rooms in the next town with phone service in order to use their phones to communicate. I was detailed to call out to everyone who might be trying to contact us to let them know of the problem and how to contact me at the hotel. Each of the satellite locations had a person dedicated to communicate with them keeping a line open at all times. They had at least two people driving back to the HQ with information and requests for information since our computer was still operational. At the time I handled all of the exporting so I was calling all around the world. I was always on the phone calling out so any of the calls coming in to me were caught by the front desk. I had pointed that problem out in the beginning but it had been ignored. After three days I finally got to return to my desk at work and the front desk operator told me that I had made their list of unusual events every day. It seems they logged anything unusual and the level of calls for me qualified as an unusual event for them. They were all good sports, they even sent me up a glass of wine with by lunch from room service the second day and did not put it on the bill so I would not get into any trouble. The company spent about $5K just after that on a new phone system (about the price of a cheap car at the time) just to track the phone calls coming and going from the individual phones. It was where I learned all about management. If there is a question I think about what they would do and do the opposite.
