I cannot believe people are camping outside a store for days for a fancy and expensive telephone. Costing $500-$600, one couple in this story plans to purchase three ... one for mom, one for dad and one for their 15 year old. Guess $100 sneakers are no longer the status symbol of today's youth. I doubt my children at 15 will have their own cell phones but I know there is NO way I'd be paying $500 to buy them one. I've also heard these phones have pretty steep service fees.

I think at minimum AT&T is charging $50 per month for 2 years and then you also have to have Itunes or it will not work.

    Sad, isn't it?

Only my oldest child has a cell phone. He got it for his 16th birthday, and only because I wanted him to be able to call for help if, once he started driving, he broke down, etc. We got him a basic phone, no frills, and put him on the family plan with us. We gave him 1 year of free service and once that year was up, he had to contribute to the phone bill (if he wanted to keep his phone.) I plan on doing the same thing with the other 3 when they turn 16. I just don't understand 13 year olds with cell phones. :?

Provided ours with their first cell phone in High School for safety issues. We knew they'd want to go to the athletic games etc., plus they played sports and we were not always able to be there, felt the need for them to be able to communicate with us while they were away. There have been many times we were glad they had one, too numerous to count.

I have this really cool new retro phone. All you can do with it is make and receive phone calls and it rings instead of playing music. That's it.

    I'm a trendsetter.
