I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE older houses and one of my hobbies is looking at old houses that are for sale. I've come across two that have really captured my interest. If you like old houses like I do, which would you rather have? 1901 Farmhouse on 2 acres of land in the country (no subdivision) 2709 sq ft, 5 bedrooms, 2-1/2 bathrooms OR 1860 Colonial on 1.20 acres in town (no subdivision) 3380 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths Both houses are under $130K and are in NC. :-D
Have you guys seen the movie, The Money Pit? We owned an 1880 Victorian in Selma, and that movie was my life!
#2 for me based on the pic. alone. BUT How old are the bathrooms (Plumbing), kitchen, etc??? Plus age of HVAC is a major too. Think $$$$. - K
Koo, do you like old houses too? Look at this one. I'd buy this thing in a heartbeat if it wasn't in Henderson. :-( 1918 Colonial, 3278 sq ft, 5 bedrooms, 2 full baths Needs some work to the outside, but so does my house and it is only 15 years old! Cute back yard. Check out the inside! There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to it, some rooms don't seem to have been renovated at all yet. You can see it here: http://www.fmrealty.com/site/proper...me=1/1/1993&sqft=2500&minbedrm=5&whichpage=87
I have to get a pic and post for you to see. My house was built in 1888, it is a victorian charmer. I love it. We were lucky to buy a house that had new plumbing, heat, etc. The foundation is in good condition as well. The interior was done nicely. I am having our bathroom redone as a gift for our wedding it is the only room I really don't like. We are doing our own fixes to it but overall the house is in great condition. No ghosts.
I love old houses too. This one is my all time fav. It used to be my great-grandmother's house. My mom grew up in it. It's a Bed and Breakfast now.
Wow, MP, that is gorgeous!! Old houses have so much personality, unlike the cookie-cutter houses that most of us live in these days.
I love old houses! My daughter and her hubby are looking for a home in this area (40/42) but don't won't to be in a subdivision..minimum of 2 acres to ensure no one builds right next door. All I can say to them is good luck finding one around here. Wish number one was anywhere close by, they'd jump on it! MP your great-grandma's house is gorgeous!
Look at this 1887 beauty! I LOVE this one! Think I could get my DH to drive 100 miles (round trip) for work each day?
I love that one too Ready! Thanks Ready and Curious. I miss it there. Unfortunatley the town has gone to pot, nothing there anymore. If I could move that house somewhere else I would love to live in it. You can see more if you do a Google search for, Grey Gables, Richford, VT.
I love old houses as well - #2 would be my pick. And that one in Henderson - oh my!! I could really go for that one!!
I love old houses!!!!!! But some give me the heeby jeebys. As long as it wasn't built on an old burial ground or had alot of violent junk go on in it...I'd be ok. My husband and I used to go out into real old abandoned houses and see what may have been left behind. Found some pretty neat stuff! Kids are older now so I think he and I need to go at it again..........
I watched when they tore down the big white house that was on C.S. road to build the dance studio--that was a beautiful house, too. It made me sad to see it go.
I think that was the Landcaster Home & it was a shame that the plan to move it where ever did not work out. - Sad.
If you love old houses then you would have just loved the one that they just tore down beside Food Lion in Angier. It was a 2 story with 6 bedrooms and 4 extra rooms built in the early 1800's. You know it was an old house because it only had 1 bathroom in the entire place. I heard the guy sold it for a million and a half for the 10 acres it was on to make way for a Bojangles. Man do I miss my grandma's old house.
