Anybody know what is going in that spot? They've been renovating it for months but I haven't seen a sign saying what it is going to be.
That makes sense. There are a lot of classroom trailers on the property already. Such a shame . . would have been a perfect spot for a Hobby Lobby. :jester:
There was actually a story about it in today's Garner Cleveland Record - it will be the Freshman Center. http://www.garnercleveland.com/2013/10/07/3256725/freshman-center-on-schedule-to.html
Garner high school is busting at the seams, new one is needed. There was a possible solution for a new high school to be built on Old Garner Road near the cement station (for lack of a better name) but there was tremendous opposition to build in that area, something to do about historical gibberish, road access etc. So, the alternative for now is to use the old movie theater building for ninth grade. This is only a temporary fix for the school systems overcrowding.
the bond approved the other day will allow for a new midle school and high school out near white oak. That and the 9th grade center will help garner HS
The $940 million in projects the bond will help fund include a $67.1 million rebuild Garner Magnet High School and a $24.6 million renovation of Vandora Springs Elementary School. Two new schools will also be built in south Garner: a $62.1 million high school and an elementary school in the range of $21-22 million. According to plans, the new high school will open as swing space for the Garner High renovation in 2016 before becoming a new school in 2017. A similar pattern could emerge for the elementary school and Vandora Springs, but that remains undecided.
