While you're eating and chatting away in the blazing sun, remember your pets. They need shade and water. If you can't provide basics, leave them safely at home, inside. Outdoor concerts, picnics, etc. keep our pets vulnerable to the behaviors of their keepers. The same with kids, by the way. Common sense is not a requisite for birthing, but it's necessary. I recently viewed several parents and pet parents wandering aimlessly around, dragging their charges along, sweating, crying, dehydrated. Don't hand me that stuff about these responsibilities not coming with a manual. There are tons of books, some at Goodwill, on how to care for creatures you don't have instincts for.

Does anyone know what a good guideline is for the heat?

I know it's not a hard and fast rule, but would you say dogs shouldn't be left in a car when it's 80+ degrees out and they probably shouldn't be outside for a long time without shade when it's 85+ degrees out?

    Anyone?

    Zoo?

    I worry about my pooches!
