Seriously, right? We all at least know that even if there's not gonna be snow sticking in the morning, that it will get to freezing temperatures and there WILL BE ice. I'm pushing for at least a 2 hour delay, for the safety of everyone.
OK, so maybe I worded it such that it was slightly confusing. Yes, Ed, calling at 5 and change was before 6. Certainly, the 2nd call confirmed it. What I had hoped for was solid leadership, making bold relevant decisions, in time for people to react. You had the perfect opportunity, Doc, to stand out from under Big Tony's shadow. You did not avail yourself of the opportunity. My concern was always about the safety of the bus drivers and their passengers. And, if we had modern roads and equipment for maintaining them, my concerns might be more mitigated. As for other families that need to have alternate child care processes in place, having the word at 11 pm makes it easier to establish alternate child care plans, especially if the parents are on a different time schedule. The way I learned it, Doc, was that it takes about a thousand "attaboys" to wipe out one "Oh, crap!" You have much ground to cover.
Yeah, I'm really loving this new system of calling me at 5:30 to tell me I can sleep in. :banghead: Yes, I know not everyone has the same luxury I have of staying home like me, but it seems they could find a better system...
Just in case you were able to fall back asleep after the 5:45 a.m. call...let me call you again at 6:50!!!
Our answering machine says he called at 5:10 am. (Don't know if the time is right...I was still asleep!)
I live in NC 42/NC 50 area. I drive NC 50 to Garner RD. It usually takes me from 6:10 to 6:30 to get in. Other than 5 minutes to clean off the truck still took 20 minutes this morning. NC 50 not bad.
Ed's robot dialer called at 5:10 and again at 5:47. I'd have much preferred knowing at 11 pm last night! I reallize that rarely, some event will happen in the early hours of the morning such that the need for phone calls is an absolute necessity. Stuff we know about and can plan for is an entirely different matter. We knew about the potential for Wx related travel concerns Sunday evening into the night. And the decision should have been made yesterday. Better to err on the side of caution, especially when its school bus travel in the mix.
You just can't please some people. The school system even calls you to let you know there has been a delay/cancellation and you get upset:?: Perhaps Dr. Croom was waiting to see how bad the roads were going to be so he would know whether to delay or cancel ... thinking of everyone's safety. When I was growing up and teaching, we woke in the morning, turned on the radio/TV ... waited ... and found out if school was closed. They very rarely called it the night before. Parents made their alternate plans and everyone survived. Sheesh ... if they had cancelled or delayed and the storm passed us (like it did once last year) ... everyone would be complaining about that. Let's see Wake schools called it early. Parents made their plans for the two hour delay only to find this morning school is closed. Yes, calling it early was helpful there
We got one call at around 5:40. I for one appreciate the call. Yes, it would be nice to know the night before, but at least getting the call prevents me from having to get up and check for myself, cause by the time I did all that, I really would be awake and not able to go back to sleep!
Well, shoot me but at 11:00 last night, there was nothing on the road to cancel school for. According to the weather forecasts I was watching, it was entirely possible Johnston Co. would have gotten nothing, then a whole lot of folks would have been up in arms about missing a day for no reason and losing another day of spring vacation. I mean jeez, who has a crystal ball? I'm not crazy about the early morning call though, I don't see why people can't listen to the radio or the news like we used to do in the olden days. But as someone else stated, there is just no pleasing everybody.
And if an accident were to happen and your little precious child injured, you'd be up in arms about it. As would I, if it happens to any child. Yes, I can be pleased. All it takes is a proactive thought process and a willingness to make a command decision in a timely fashion for things that are foreseeable. It sounds as if some on here are happy with the JoCo schools status quo. Even if it was 98% on target (not even close) there's still room for improvement. Let's examine this from another view. When the next bond issue comes forward, and it will - sooner than you may think- you can bet your rump that Ed and crew will be doing their dance to get us to vote in favor for it. I'm not that easily swayed. I believe that communication must be two way, and appreciate the views of all affected, not just those who want to be in charge. Without parental support, their job is much more difficult. One would think that they should remember that, even when a bond issue isn't penultimate.
Got to go back to sleep this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Caught a few extra ZZZZZZZZZZZZ's I thought I was going to work (even got showered and dressed) and then I think my boss saw the wreck on 540 with the bus and Chip truck that was overturned and called me and said no work.
