We would like to take our kid to the amusement park for his birthday wish: roller coaster rides. We are living in Clayton area and I do know that both Carowinds of VA and NC have the same driving distance (3 hours). We're thinking of going tomorrow instead of next weekend to avoid the Memorial Day madness. My question is which Carowinds park should we head to - Charlotte or Richmond? Which one is nicer and easier to travel?
It's Kingsdominion in Doswell, Virginia which is 10 or so miles north of Richmond. We were just there in April. Have been to Carowinds too, but prefer Kingsdominion...they have more roller coasters.
Kings Dominion last year we had a season pass at Carowinds because it was a little cheaper and you could go to any of the Paramount parks(it is diff this year since Cedar point bought them out) we spent two days at carowinds(Charlotte) at the beg of summer and two days at Kings Dominion(Doswell, Va). at the end of summer. They were about the same distance from home. (3 hours) Both myself and the kids(11,12,14) liked Kings Dominion better. It is a little bigger and has a better variety of rides. We stayed at the campground at PKD and had a great time. could ride the bus to the park. both were fun. you will have a good time.
I like Busch Gardens too in VA too, aren't they supposed to have re-vamped or have a new theme this year???
Hey all, we just got back from King Dominion. My family and I had a wonderful time there. We were very surprised that there aren't any long lines. We rode most rides except the DropZone, where my son wasn't tall enough to go on it. The Volcano Blast and Italian Job coasters are awesome. My son and I refused to go on the Hypersonic coaster with my husband. He went on it and said that it was so fast that his neck is a little sore. The weather there was beautiful and pleasant. It took us 2 1/2 hours drive to get there, not bad. Thank you for your answers to our question. King Dominion is a nice place to spend time with your family and enjoy all kind of rides.
