Any parents out there w/ children who have IEP's? Do you know where to look for advocate help or the next step in a process to go to arbritration? If so, please write me at boydbunch@gmail.com. We have not been able to resolve an issue and will need to go to the next level and prefer not to go to the DPI but will if necessary. Thanks for any input. I will not discuss the specifics on this board. Hope you all understand. Just need help locating help if that makes any sense.

    Best wishes,

Don't bother to go to the DPI. They will just refer you back to the person at the central office whom you have probably been dealing with. If you haven't been dealing with anyone at the central office that is the next person to go to. If you have, the next step is to retain a lawyer.

Wishing you luck, I am in the process of trying to get an IEP for my young son and hitting brick walls at many steps between More at Four and the EC dept.

Since several have commented regarding problems could we please read a little portion of the problem? Until I understand I cannot explain or ask questions to others.

OP, I already know some of your problems from a while back and all. I am asking the others.

    Thanks,
    Sherry

Years ago we had to go to the DPI and they did immediately fix the problem. I had already been through the chain of command though, including a not so nice conversation w/ the superintendent. Do go to central office but I can tell you after dealing w/ them for over 9 years now, it gets you nowhere typically. I do know many folks who've had to go the lawyer route but still think it's ashame to get to that point to just get help. Really hurts the kids in the long run not providing services. BTW, did you all know that dyslexia is NOT recognized by Johnston County as a learning disability?!?! Seriously, that's what I was told at my meeting a few weeks ago.

I homeschool two of mine but not the others yet. Trouble is, my kids have had some great teachers. It's the IEP team w/ the compliance officer, administrators, etc. that are the problem. NOT the teachers. Teachers have their hands tied so to speak as what they are allowed to do for the kids. The teachers recognize when the kids(I'm speaking generally here, not just mine) need help, yet many times, are not allowed to get it for them w/out much bureacacy. Hope things will change soon but highly doubt it.

Good luck to others who are dealing w/ IEP's. Anyone want to have a "brainstorming session" at my house? Maybe if all of us got together, we could help each other. Just a thought.

    Take care,
