some serious discussions with our teenagers about driving. I have one child who drives. He just turned 20 and, thank the Lord, he hasn't had any accidents. I have another who will be 16 next year and it is scary as all get out thinking about him starting to drive! So many kids, especially boys, just don't seem to realize the dangers of driving. Look at this...

He was the FOURTH person from the class of '07 to be killed in a car wreck?! I graduated in 1985 and I haven't heard of ANY of my classmates being killed in car accidents. Sometimes I really wish they would change the driving age to 18.

:iagree: It's very SCARY to have teenagers out driving (I have two also) and I'm also scared for myself because of the way OTHER people drive!

My daughter is going to take driver's ed in April, she turns 16 in Sept. I am not looking forward to that at all. My son took Driver's Ed and I when he started driving on his own, I sat on pins and needles until he got home, same with him riding with his friends.

Bad part, Driver's Ed is only 2 weeks? They only require the student to be behind the wheel for a total of 8 hours before they get their permit. When I was in school, (grad. in '81), Driver's Ed was part of our regular glasses, not just a 2 week course after school.

I did not let my son get his license until I felt comfortable enough to let him drive by himself. In fact, and this might sound bad, he had her permit for almost years. I road with him and saw how he drove....so until I felt more confident in him, he did not get his license.

That must have been quite an impact! Looks like three large pieces of the car. I think that's a first generation Dodge Intrepid. Also, it seems that maybe the car got sideways. I wonder if he was wearing a seat belt, because it looks like the car hit the bridge on the passenger side and I assume he was alone.

Of course, often times teens take risks. I know I did a few times when I was driving. I was fortuate enough to not have an accident due to it. Running 85 mph on a narrow two-lane state road is dangerous. I wonder if it was on a curve, too.

With such a big car and little experience, its an accident waiting for a happening. My condolences to the famiy.

85 miles an hour. Wasn't it raining Friday?

Ready, I don't remember anyone in our classes dying either. I do remember that terrible crash that killed 5 (?) high school students when I was younger than high school age. That was such a loss and so tragic. Now we are losing our children so much faster, and it doesn't seem as if anything's going to change.

I think our kids are around the same age too, and I feel very apprehensive about letting my youngest behind the wheel.

we had classmates killed in car accidents every year i was in high school. i remember the car crash that killed the 5 students. its very sad. my youngest has already totalled 2 cars and my oldest went flying through a big tree. thankfully neither were hurt at all. it scares me to death every time they get out to drive. i've even told my youngest not to call me on my way to work in the mornings anymore unless it is an emergency because my heart stops every time she would call.

I remember that very well. It was in 1976 so we were 9 yrs old. One of my good high school friend's sister died in that accident. I remember Mr. Perry talking about it when once I got to high school. If I'm remembering correctly, he said a whole row of one of his history classes was wiped out due to that accident. :-(

wow, there must have been 2 wrecks like that then. the one i'm remembering was in the 80s. i'm thinking 81 or 82. one of the girls survived and was paralized but she eventually overcame that.

Dang, now everyone on this board is in danger. They all know my real age.

Ummm... I mean... you must be mistaken, I wasn't even born in 1976.
