Ok,my sister has an Aluminum W Pan Awning over her patio and every couple of Aluminum W's is a plastic W so that it allows light to filter thru so it is not so dark under it. Maybe this awning is about 25-40 years old? Anyway the plastic W's, some are cracking and she can't find a place that just sells the old aluminum W style. Does anyone know where she might be able to find some plastic W's or any ideas to fix it. She doesn't want to replace with a new modern material awning as they are 4,000 plus dollars, she just wants to replace some W panels. Thanks.
option to replace plastic w panels. Lowes carries plastic roof panels that are wavey some are clear and some are colored. I believe they come in 6,8 and 12 ft sections. That may work go look.
Thanks, I did look at that and got a brochure for the Tuftex. Is there any other options to repair the few w plastic that are cracked. All the w aluminum are fine. The water comes onto her patio thru the holes in the plastic ones.
I'm assuming this is the deep rib profile aluminum panels? If the metal ones are not aluminum let me know. Use a magnet to check them. Give me the dimensions as listed A, B, C, D, E, and I may be able to locate replacement panels. If not, you can use this drawing to fill in the dimensions, get a thickness on the panel, and give it to Raleigh Sheet Metal, Hamlin Roofing, or Baker roofing for quotes. They can press break replacements up to 20' long. I forgot to add. More than likely the skylight panels are fiberglass. They didn't manufacture a plastic with a span or safety capacity back then. If the UV hasn't totally destroyed them you can coat them with fiberglass resin. Slow set and mix it thin, then roll it on. It’s a possible 2 year band aid fix.
Thank You, let me tell my sister about that, she is looking for the skylight panels and yes the UV has destroyed them and she wants to replace just the skylight ones. Is that possible or do they make them anymore.? The shape of the panel is exactly what she is looking for, do you know who has those skylight panels?
I need the profile and dimensions if you want a true match. Without a true match it will leak worse than it is now. If you do find a match, and it's not local, the freight $ will kill you. I don't know of any manufacturers that still make the skylight panels? Mason Coprp's profile on "W" panel is trapezoidal. Is that what you have? Your cheapest way out … take a good section piece of the skylight to those fab shops, give them the length you need and see what they will charge. You’ll have to know if it’s .019 , .023 or .030 in thickness before they can quote it. Don’t count on the color matching, top or bottom, whether you get a replacement or have it fabbed.
