Probably the best store-bought pecans will be from a place like Clayton Food Town in downtown Clayton, which tends to sell more local items during the holiday season.

There's a house on 42, just down the hill from CDH going toward Fuquay, that has a sign in front. Don't know anything about them, can't make a recommendation, but I have noticed the sign driving by.

I've been looking for some pecans as well. I usually buy from DR Wells but they didn't have any. I also checked L&G Farms on 1010. My DH ended up stopping at the Farmer's Market yesterday and getting me some. They were $7.50 per pound shelled. Food Lion has them for $7.99 per pound shelled. Don't know how fresh FL's would be but those from the Farmers Market were great!!

B & B Pecans is the owner of Elizabeths Pecans. Farm and store located in Turkey, N.C. East of Johnston County just off I 40. It is about a one hour drive. A favorite drive of ours this time of year is to go to Elizabeths and pick up some pecans, purchase some pecan candy products. Their pecan brittle is delicious. Then come back and have dinner in Meadow. And finally go out to see Meadow Lights.

FYI: This year has been very bad for local Pecans.

Our trees have had almost NONE. We usually pick up the nuts & sell them. It's a retired farmer thing! BUT not this year.

In years past my Aunts & Uncles would pick up the nuts & sell them to PAY their farm (property) taxes, in person the last few days in Dec.

in years past there have always been a few people set up at the flea market at the State Fairgrounds selling them. Even bought a neat contraption for cracking the shells and getting the pecan out whole from one guy about 6 years ago.

Last Friday was Pecan Day at the Farmers Market. There may still be some vendors there with pecans. I'd definitely check there.

I called the lady above but she didn't call back... guess she is away for the weekend. I ended up buying some at Kroger (the were on sale) Still sad to buy pecans in the store at NC. I just really really needed some.

My neighbor has lots of pecan trees (and she shares). Do they only have pecans every other year or something, because there were none this year.

I've heard other people say they usually have a lot, but none or hardly any this year. Maybe on account of the drought early in the summer? It's hard to remember that now, with all the rain we've had lately. But no, it's not an every other year thing. We used to have pecan trees when we lived in Selma, and we would get several good years in a row, and sometimes just a bad year for pecans.

Well Mrs. Eubanks just called back.... of course, since I already bought some. She said she has 500 pounds or so from last year to sell. She sounds very nice, so if anyone needs some give her a call. I will get some unshelled ones from her for my birds.

She did say her trees only give every other year too... wierd. I wonder if it is a certain type of tree???

No thank you. I will take the ride to B&B in Turkey. If you go there be sure to ask for "current year" pecans. They will get the fresh ones for you.
