I was informed @ church this evening that there were people seen around our burned out home on Booker Court picking through the rubble. To those who are stupid enough to go over there looking for something that is not yours... 1st of all you are risking serious injury because this structure is very unstable .... 2nd You should have some respect for what's not yours in the first place, more than likely there is nothing left worth trying to scrounge out of there and how dare you even go over there to pick out what you want or may try to get. The Johnston County Sheriff's office has been notified and if anyone who does NOT belong on that property is caught over there they Will be subject to arrest. Unbelieveable to think you may find something over there not to mention risk getting yourself seriously injured.
I am so sorry to hear this but reading this thread kinda gave me this idea. When growing up on the beach every summer, I would see this same old man with this machinery (radar detector) Not sure of the actual name for this but its long and round at the bottom. I would somtime hear this big beeping sound (meant that he found something and then he would start digging in the sand). Maybe you can rent one of these (not sure if you can) and go back to the the house and see maybe you can find some jewellery, some valuables. Not sure what it can pick up but I thought it would be worth a try. Maybe give something back to yor wife. I know she is going thru a difficult time. Hang in there.
Most likely copper. They caught 2 men stealing copper out of the strip club on 70 after it burned. How frustrating for you! So sorry.
I am so very sorry to hear about your home. Such a terrible thing. My heart really goes out to you. That is something that I think and worry about often. I can only imagine your loss. I just hope that no one was injured. Then to think that someone could be so crude and unfeeling as to actually try to find something to take from there when any little thing you might find would mean so much to you, is unthinkable. Also the detector thing someone mentioned is called a metal detector. My Dad (who has since passed away) use to use them often and actually built several homemade versions of his own. That is a good idea but you would probably find a lot of useless scrape metal and pipes too. Might be worth a shot though.
I do not have a metal detector and I would not attempt at this point to even try to use one over there. When the landlord knocks down the side walls and it is deemed safe enough to sift through, I will attempt to try to find something, anything that we may be able to salvage.
