Would you, or have you ever, reused a pet name?

When I was a kid, my grandparents lived on a grain farm in middle-of-nowhere Illinois. We'd go visit once or twice a month. One of their neighbors (about a half mile away) had several animals I used to go visit. They always had a farm dog named Black Bart. It was years before I caught on to one little detail. Black Bart went through several miraculous transformations of size, shape, gender, even color ... there were times that Black Bart wasn't even black! They'd adopt any stray that came along and always name it Black Bart.

I've never been able to re-use a pet name. I've always had to give my pets new and unique names, which gets difficult when you've had dozens and dozens of fish over the years.

I'm curious about anyone else, though. Do you have a name you've re-used/re-cycled? Maybe as a tribute to the first pet, or maybe you've just really liked the name ... would you, if you could?

When I was a teenager in West Orange NJ I had a rabbit named Jesse. Now I have a tripaw Beagle named Jese. Pronounced the same but spelled different. I also had an orange cat named Pumpkin, I now have a calico cat named Punkin..similar sounding names.

I know a few ppl who do that. They are on their 2nd or 3rd dog of the same exact name.

Only once. We adopted a dog that was already named, and it was the same as a childhood pet I'd had. No biggie.

Our recent CL dog came with a name I hated and I changed it to a similar sounding name. She doesn't care as long as I don't call her late to eat. :jester:

Additionally the dogs of the same name usually look almost identical. When I have a dog who passes, I usually try to go to the total opposite look for my next one so there is not a comparison between the deceased and the new dog. That is the main reason I would never re-use a name, I think I would compare the original "Buffy" to the new "Buffie". But that's just me. Fresh start, new name. Although I do already have the name picked out for my next dog....and the breed...
