...Any parents that can offer info on Polenta elemetary? We are closing on our new home in july and I was wondering how this school is...my little girl will be starting in the fall ...Thanks
My son goes to Polenta and he likes it. I always ask how his day went, and most of the time aside from children problems his days are great. The principal there is a really great lady. The staff is great and the children are taught in a way my son enjoys. He is learning more here than in his last school.
You'll hear horror stories from any school, but there are great things about most of the schools in this corner of Jo.Co. I worked there once upon a time and I was real impressed with the teachers. I think you'll be pleased with Polenta...any of the three elementaries squished in up and down Cleveland School Rd are great (just watch out for the carpool lines...there are a lot of 'me-first' mommies who'll run you over 'cause their schedules are more important than yours!).
Polenta Elem This was my son's first year at Polenta, and his K experience was a rough road at first. However, I personally talked with the teachers and Mrs. Nancy Nettles (principal) and school counselor, and they were all wonderful. They were very accomodating, and we were able to work something out for my son, who now loves school. Also, I am a weekly volunteer, so they know me, and I can keep updated as to what's going on in school. I realize not everyone has the ability to volunteer in their child's classroom, but if you can, do it. It makes a world of difference.
polenta My daughter went there with K. and I don't think it's so much the school, I think it's more or less the teacher..she wasn't good. My daughter goes now to McGee's and her teacher was much better. But, again it's not the school that can make it bad. I stayed on top of things more this past yr and I think that made a big big differance. Sheri
I do not know anything about Polenta school, but I can tell you that you're making the right choice by sending your daughter to school in the beginning of the school year. We closed our new home last October and my son didn't start his school until November 1st. He struggled and tried to catch up, since we came from out of state. We felt it was a bad mistake we made by putting him in school in the middle of the year. Communication and participation with the school are very important that parent should be aware of. Your child will be just fine, as long as you can help your child with the schoolwork and keep an open communication/participation with the school. I've heard Polenta is a good school and I think your child will do fine. Good luck and best wishes on your new home!
My daughter attended K there last year. I was a great experience. The principal Ms. Nettles is great so are her assistants. My daughter had a great teacher and all the teachers were really nice. She learned alot and we still miss the school. We moved and she now attends Riverwood which is also a great school but we really miss Polenta.
Thanks for everyones info..My daughter was scheduled to start kindergarden at dixon rd but with the relocation with the house it switched..We looking forward to the new house and new school..
My grandkids were at Polenta and are now at Dixon, i don't think you can go wrong with either one. Welcome to the area:-D
One more thing - I noticed recently that Polenta's having a K readiness program camp this summer. The children who will be entering K have an opportunity to see what K is like. You may want to call the school to find out about it. Being a former K teacher, I think it's a great idea to just get the child check out the new environment so they will know what to expect. I think it's a week long program, but I could be wrong.
