I need help for an abandoned poodle. The whole story is this, (and I'm going to try to keep my personal bias and bitterness out of it  ): A friend of a friend owned a poodle. They kept it outside. They never took care of it. I dont think it ever went to a vet. They paid attention to it when they remembered it existed. They thought she was gaining weight (my friend was sneaking her food). They moved. They left the dog behind. (*of course) The neighbors and my friend have been feeding her, but we all hate to see her get stuck in a shelter. I've looked in to specific breed rescue, but Carolina Poodle Rescue is based out of SC. I havent met her yet, but I know it's a medium sized female poodle (about 16-18 inches tall?), friendly, used to cats (they also left behind a dozen or so cats... ) ... I'm not sure of the age or color yet, trying to get that info this evening. She was very dirty and matted, my friend took her to a groomer today and got her cleaned up and a schnauzer cut. She had four ticks, so could have tick-borne diseases and/or heartworms, having never been to a vet. I'd like to get her in to a rescue ... (she's not in Johnston County, but I can get her here). Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
That's too bad. I saw where K-Mart in Smithfield was having an "adopt a rescued puppy" day the other day. Wonder if you could get info on that and somehow work the poodle into the system. Kinda sounds like some people I know. They went to the beach for a week and asked the neighbor to "just throw some food in the pen". The neighbor went over thisevening and made an area for the dog to have some shade. Needless to say the dog is getting treated better right now than usual.
It's "whitish blond" (I think probably cream colored), 7 years old, current on rabies vaccine, and spayed.
This girl is currently out beyond Zebulon ... around Louisburg. Franklin/Nash county area. (When I first moved here, I was surprised that everyone seemed to go by 'county' ... I had no idea what county was where!!)
