For those of you that have an above ground pool about how much did it cost (and size) and what are the annual costs related to its upkeep? Also, if you got it from a local vendor and are happy with it I'd love to know that as well. My husband just bought himself a motorcylce so now it's mama's turn for her pool!!

Hey! My husband is a store manager at Capitol Pools on Hwy 70 (just down the street from the White Oak area). Give him a call and he can give you all the information about the above ground pools and get you set up with what you need/want. He can also give you all the details (honest ones) about what it will cost on average annually for the upkeep.

His name is Josh and he'll help you out! :)

Hey! I know very little about pools but I have heard that a natural salt chlorination system costs about the same to purchase but is way cheaper to maintain and is not drying to skin and doesn't turn hair green and all. Worth considering!

We have had 2 above ground pools. First one at our first home was 33 ft. around and they no longer make them as they tend to cave in. We had gotten our frist one from Recreational Factory Wharehouse in Raleigh. I honestly can't remember how much it was as it was YEARS ago. I "think" it was around $3K. Now, the one we have now is a 27 ft. around and I think it was around $4K when all was said and done. We purchased that one from Clearwater Pools at 4042 and had nothing but a good experience from them. Even until now. We've had it for 4 years now. Last year the pump caught on fire. Don't ask. Let's just say the wasps found a new home--LOL. Anyhow, we bought a new pump from Clearwater and it did fine....until we tried to run it this spring. Clearwater replaced it for no costs. I've been pleased w/ customer service there. And, it's so close for us. Either place was good.

Upkeep is roughly around $70 per season for us. Chemicals and such. Depends of course if we drain the entire thing. We try to do that every 2 years but w/ drought status, we are not doing it this year. When we refill the entire pool, it is exactly $70. Trying to give you an estimate on costs.

though we prefer an inground( my grandfather ran a swimming pool business in PA while I grew up) pool, we are very happy w/ ours. One thing, do opt for the extra cost of a pool drain. In retrospect, something we should have done for an extra $200.

Good luck w/ the pool. You won't regret it! We love it and keeps kiddos busy ALL summer long!

We have a 24' round and love it. This is the third year and the grands love it. We just had a deck added and it really is wonderful to be able to jump right in.

The pool place we purchased from is no longer in business but have dealt with Clearwater Pool this season, they are so eager to assist and I feel very truthful about all chems., etc.

My neighbor just bought a 27' round salt water pool from Clearwater and love it. They are also very pleased with the products and the wonderful customer service they are receiving.

My neighbor has talked highly of the salt water system. No chemicals needed. No upkeep really. They found a pool at intex. A new type of hard side Intex pool, and it was only $800 or so. We'll be looking forward to the pool party!!!!

I am assuming you cannot swim with your eyes open in a salt water pool? Do you think it would bother small children?

It is not really salt water you are swimming in, the saltwater system uses salt to generate chloine so you are still swimming in chlorine.

Electrolysis produces chlorine from the water passing thru the chlorine generator. There should not be a salty smell or taste to the water so long as it is balanced properly.

Here's another vote for Clearwater. We bought our pool from Justin in January. Totally pleased with their customer service. We paid around $4k for a 24' round pool. Bought an Aqua-Trol Chlorine Generator system off of Ebay and just started using it about 3 weeks ago. Haven't had to add anything since it started up. Seems like a very low maintenance setup.

Now this is a good idea. Just get it and try to have him tell me I have to bring it back. 8) Anyway, thanks for all of the info. I want as much info, personal experiences etc. for when I make my pitch to him.

We deal with Clearwater and Rising Sun on chemicals. Rising Sun put our pool in a couple of years ago and we've been nothing but delighted (in ground). They are always so busy though in their new White Oak location, it's just easier for us to get our water tested and chemicals at Clearwater.

Beware....don't do anything with Bluewater....they put my neighbors in ground about 1/2 way in and I hear they are now filling for bankruptcy, so my neighbor is SOL and having to repay to have it finished.

We had a 27' above ground for many years and it was fine until we moved and put it up near a tree. That was the dumbest thing we could have ever done. Long story short, we ended up spending over $800 in 2 months at Capitol Pools to try to clear it up. Finally gave up on them and went to Clearwater. They checked the water and sold us $50 in chemicals and it cleared up in 2 days. We ended up giving the pool away but I swore I would NEVER deal with Capitol Pools again. They are money hungry and some of the techs in the store don't know what they are doing.

Clearwater has my vote above anybody else in the area. The two brothers that run the store are very nice and they will be honest and up front with you.

Thanks for the explanation, I had never heard of salt water pools. That is very good to know since the biggest drawback I have seen with pools is upkeep.

Yes, and if it had not been for you and the guys at Clearwater I would have taken an ax to the dang thing. I don't miss it at all.

We have had our pool for about 3 years now. We purchased it through rec warehouse and the only thing I have to say about them is to NOT go there. We had nothing but a bad experience with them-everything from purchasing to installation. And from talking to other people we are not the only ones. We have been buying all our chemicals through Clearwater pools at 40/42 and they have been wonderful! We have a salt system and we really enjoy it. Myself and the kids are sensitive to chlorine so this was a wonderful alternative. Plus it costs less to maintain.
