    Play Area, etc.

I have heard that the swim club is going to be adding some new amneties this year. Is a playground in the works for the children. Where will it be located in proximity to the pool? We drove by and stopped in and did not see anything added yet. Thanks in advance for your reply. Very nice pool from viewing through the gate. Just wanted to ask if you plan on a slide or diving board for kids. It did not appear deep enough for a diving board, but a slide would be appealing for kids. Just a thought!

I swear that this is an honest question.

What are the advantages of paying $400 a year to use someone else's pool?

Jenn we have an above ground pool, but don't live in a subdivision, so my kids never had anyone to swim with. We ended up joining last year, and every time we went there was someone there for my kids to play with. They really enjoyed going. They have no interest in our pool now. It is also nice for SAH moms to be able to see other moms and chat...

I never thought we would be a community pool kind of family, but it has worked for us and they are looking forward to it again this year.

Ahhh, so it's not really about the pool. It's a social thing?

I never thought of it that way, but your right it is! It is an expensive play group for the older kids... it is also an excuse to make me get out of the house. Since we paid, you know cheap me will use it, so we go several times a week, if not almost everyday!!

My 10 year old likes it because it has a deep end, which our above ground doesn't have, maybe if we had a bigger pool and more friends close by we wouldn't need it.

Two issue that will offset the cost of membership, at least in part:
    1. Maintenance.
    2. Liability.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting anyone down. I was just asking.

We bought our pool almost 3 years ago, and I really enjoy not having to load up in the car, pack lunch, and head off somewhere to swim. I just walk out the back door. But I can see how having other people there is an incentive too.

BUT, you have to vacuum, shock, test, balance, chlorinate, vacuum again . . . I'm so glad I won't have to spend a fortune at the pool stores this year. They will miss me, I'm sure.

We don't really spend a fortune.

Last year, it cost us about $75-$100 to start up, and then to maintain was probably $20 a month or so?

We only buy chemicals in the summer, we don't let the pool run all year long.

I guess it's just a matter of preference, lol....and I prefer not to be in public in a bathing suit! :)

Yes, that same scary thought woke me out of bed night before last. I have gained a bit of weight this winter, and it hides pretty well under sweatshirts!!! I woke straight up thinking, I have to be in a bathing suit soon.

That alone might be reason enough not to join this year!!!

It's time to sign up and I am having second thoughts... It is a bit of a drive for me, I live closer to the Pool at Desert Pines. Do they still take 'outside' people? Does anyone know who to call to ask? I cant find it listed anywhere. I am thinking they have changed to only people in the subdivision. (I live walking distance away, but not IN the subdivision.)

My SIL is a member of the Desert Pines pool again this year, they moved out of that subdivision about 2 years ago so they don't live in the subdivision anymore and are still members.

I personally would join Riverwood. You can then have the pool, all of the golf courses(Green Fees), and access to the athletic clubs for 80.00 to 110.00 per month. I don't remember the exact cost but mine was the Silver Plan. All of that for a minimum is cheap. Especially with green fees included.

The pool at Desert Pines s/d is the McGees Crossroads Swim & Tennis Club. It is a members only pool and was built before most of the homes in the s/d were built.
I'll see if I can dig up a contact name but from what I have heard it takes years to buy a share/membership. I guess they have a long waiting list. :?:
