I am searching for a new above ground swimming pool. After this season, we are taking our old pool down and will be searching for a new one. I definitely want to get a salt water pool though. I've searched on the internet for places to buy a pool but wanted some feedback from my fellow 4042ers. So, where is the best place to buy a pool and get it installed? Anyone cheaper than the other? Great customer experience? etc, etc. Thanks in advance! 8)

Lucy, It doesn't seem like anyone owns a pool in the 40/42 area!!! We are going to tear down our own pool that is 15 years old and get a new one next year also. I don't know where to buy one either!!!

Rising Sun is the largest pool retailer in the area. They have a location in White Oak but their main location is on Hillsborough St in Raleigh. We have had great service from them when needed.

For anything other than the pool and installation I suggest EBay. I saved at least $200 on a salt chlorine generator by buying it on EBay versus one of the pool companies locally. Saved a great deal by buying my steps and heater the same way. I did pay Rising Sun to install the heater but the other two were simple.

    Hope this helps some

As sad as it sounds, if you just bought one of these, and threw it away at the end of Summer ever year, it would still be cheaper over 10 years than buying the same size regular above ground pools.

And you get a brand new pool and pump every year. My parents have had a lot of issues with their expensive above ground pool over the years. New liner every few, new pump every 5-6, etc. And all of those cost a ton to replace.

We bought ours at Clearwater Pools. It is located on Anna Drive off of 42.

We got our above ground pool at Recreational Warehouse on Capitol Blvd.about 12 years ago and installed it ourselves. Got a new liner 2 years ago and installed that too, pool is still in good shape even after all that time.

I will definitely check out Clearwater Pools since they are right around the corner from my house. I guess the best thing to do is go from place to place or call to get quotes on pools and installation. We prefer not to install it ourselves just because it is a huge task! Not to mention we have a major slope in our backyard.

Love Clearwater for chemicals but if you have a difficult landscape to put in an aboveground i would go with Rising Sun, i may be wrong but i do believe Clearwater focuses mainly on inground installation. Saltwater is the way to go but remember it is not a true saltwater pool like the ocean, the salt generates the chlorine and the other chemicals still need to be balanced :) It tickles me when people say oh we have a saltwater pool and think it is like ocean water .

We got our pool also from Rec Warehouse many years ago and have only had to replace some parts with the pump and sand filter over time. The liner needs replacing but since it's holding water fine we just haven't done it. Rec Warehouse went out and we were not impressed at all by the company that took over the space. We use the Bacquacil system and have never had issues and love it. We get our water tested and chemicals from Clearwater Pools and love them! They have never tried to sell us chemicals we don't need and while the computer may say one thing, they use their experience and judgement to tell us what to really add and how much. They are also the nicest folks and I would highly recommend them. I'm pretty sure they sell and install both inground and above ground pools. .

Thanks for the advice! I agree, Kaci, nothing like the ocean water! Love it and wish I lived closer - minus the hurricanes of course. I am going to hop around to different pool places tomorrow and see if I can get more information.

Look into the pool and spa outlet on 10-10/401. They are awesome and can accommodate to your needs and service.

We have had 2 above ground pools. We bought the first one from Capitol Pools in Garner. Big mistake. Everytime we took the water in to be tested they would sell us a TON of chemicals that we probably didn't need. The last year we had that pool it turned a swampy green. I spent over $800 on chemicals in a month at Capitol and it never cleared up.

We bought our second pool from Rising Sun at White Oak and it is a pleasure to do business with them. They did everything they said they would, when they said and they stand behind their products. Our pump motor quit last week exactly one year to the date that the pool was installed. We took it back and they installed a brand new motor free of charge. We hardly ever have to add anything to the pool. We took water up there this past weekend and didn't have to buy a single thing.

We have the saltwater system and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.

We've also dealt with Clearwater Pools in the past and they are also very knowledgeable and don't try to sell you things you don't need.

We got our in-ground pool from Rising Sun and I definitely recommend them. They do great work and stand behind the job. We also had to have a pump motor replaced and they came out the next day and took care of it right away. And when our liner got a tear that was entirely our fault, they patched it free of charge. Really great to work with, although you might need to have some patience because this is their busiest time of the year.

I agree that a salt system is the way to go. We spend maybe 5 minutes a week on pool maintenance, primarily just checking the computer, dumping the filter baskets, and backwashing the tank. We take a water sample to the White Oak location once a month and they never push chemicals on us. More often than not they say it looks great and doesn't need anything at all. You can get bags of salt cheaper at Lowes.
