Are there any in the area of Garner/Clayton/Raleigh/Cary/Smithfield??

To give you an example of what I'm looking for, there is a restaurant in Virginia where I'm from that has now been in business for 30 years, family owned. EVERYBODY knows it. People that live in that town and all nearby know it, all the people that work in the businesses in that town and towns near by know it, and MANY of the customers are regulars. I knew people who went 3-5 times a week. They had great constant business and the good waitresses made really good money even though the checks were low. (food was much cheaper than the chains)

    So any suggestions?

    Thanks a bunch!!!

just curious, what part of VA ya from and what restaurant ya talking about. We are from Lynchburg and that is what we were looking for when we moved down here and we found the Clubhouse, up off of 42 behind Food Lion, it felt like home and after almost 9 years it is still our Cheers:)

The restaurant I'm talking about is in Herndon, Va. The Tortilla Factory. (I think there is a chain named that, but the one I'm talking about is not a chain).

Is the clubhouse really busy during the day? Tortilla Factory always has a wait at lunch time and it was worth it!!

at lunch they are slammed but have never experienced a waiting line to get in, you have to remember most folks in this area commute to Raleigh during the day, that is why the 4042 area is called a bedroom community of Raleigh.

McKinleys is good, great menu & specials, they've been open 8 yrs @ the Lowes Food Shopping Center on Hwy 70 in Clayton. Lots of regulars, waitstaff that know everyone and remember what you like.

I don't know what kind of food/atmosphere you are looking for, but Stephenson's BBQ on Hwy 50 near McGees is family owned, popular with the locals and I think it has been around for many, many years.

If you are looking for nothing but breakfast and lunch.....Try Jone's Cafe on Main street Clayton. Nothing in this area been around as long as that place has.

Toot N Tell It has been in the area since i can remember. Same with Jones's.

Two Guys on Hillsborough, i believe, is the oldest restaurant on the street. Maybe Sadlacks is older, i dunno, but Two Guys has been there at least since 1970.

Just wish the original Boondini's was back up at Tryon.

    Becky's Log Cabin Resturant

I've noticed some threads about various resturants in the area and I wanted to let you know of one that has been around since the early 1970's. It is called Becky's Log Cabin...it is a steak house, but, she also serves seafood, chicken, etc. She also has the best salad bar around with a huge hoop of old cheddar cheese and serves New England Clam Chowder each night on the salad bar. She also serves homemade bread. The resturant is a quite place to dine with low background music and it is filled with antique mirrors and has a stain glass ceiling in the dining room and in the bar...beautiful. The resturant is located on the left over the bridge past the Premium Outlet Mall in Smithfield. In the winter months, a huge fire is roaring in the smoking section of the resturant. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. I did notice her santition grade was 90.0 tonight but since I know Becky and she just lost her mother a few weeks ago, the grade didn't bother me.
I hope you will check out this 'old time' resturant soon.

Casa Carbone on Glenwood past the mall also has been around for many years. Very good American Italian food.

Is that one still out there? I would make a road trip just for the navy bean soup.
