My friend and her family are moving from Alabama sometime the end of this year. I did online quotes for U-haul, Penske, and Budget but they are all around $700 plus you have to buy the gas. I just did an online quote online for Pack Rat and I am waiting to hear back from them to tell me the price. I know there is another portable storage place but I can't think of the name. Has anyone ever used these companies for a long distance move?
I used ABF for a move from Oklahoma to NC - they drop a trailer off at your home when you want them to, come and pick it up and drop it off at your destination when you want - allows them to move their trailers around and saves a ton of money for you - I think it cost me $1300 to move from OK to NC this way - you unload and load your self.
When we moved down here ABF was by far the cheapest, and we quoted everything from renting a truck (U-Haul, Penske, Budget, etc) to Portable Storage (PackRat, Pods, etc) to moving companies. I just wish we had gone the ABF route. PackRat and Pods were actually even more expensive then having a moving company come out, load the truck, drive it down, and unload everything. And that is without adding in leaving the units in storage for any amount of time, which is outrageous. We ended up getting a storage unit and then having the movers pick everything up from there.
