At the advice of my vet, I price shopped the cost of a prescription my dog needs to be on for 3-6 months or longer. The medicine is one also used by humans. I could not believe the variance of cost for the same prescription at different pharmacies.

Best Price - Target & Wal-Mart $20 ... the med. is on their $4 generic list but cost more due to the quantity needed

    1-800-Pet Meds (on-line pet supply) $34 + shipping
Dr. Foster (on-line pet supply) $35 plus shipping
    Vet's office $41.20
    WalGreens, Clayton $45.79
    Medicap, Benson $80

I love Medicap but in the future will be doing some price shopping before taking my prescriptions there.

I have used Vet Med Direct for years and love it! Great service and very safe!

One thing to be on the lookout for is that there are some drugs that are prescribed to both animals and humans that are completely the same, and then there are some that have the same active ingrediants with different inactive ingrediants. Just make sure that you are comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Not apples to oranges, when you are price shopping.

THANKS for sharing ... that web site shows I can get 500 tablets from them for about $61 (including shipping) ... 500 @ Target would run me $100. 500 @ Medicap would cost $400. I may end up getting the first fill @ Target though since it will take 2-7 days to ship.

The vet did say for this particular med it is the same as what humans take. I just wonder how Medicap and other smaller pharmacies will stay in business with WalMart and Target offering so these significantly lower prices. It shows, too, the mark up on prescription drugs.

Doesn't really show the mark-up as much as you would think. More so the buying power that Walmart and Target have compared to mom/pop places. Because even in the drug industry there are price points that mom/pop can't touch that Walmart/Target surpass everytime they order.

My little guy is on 2 prescriptions for allergies. One was over about $80 for 100 at the Vet. At Vet Med, it is $41 for 100. The other one is around $35 for 100 at the vet and check this out...at Vet Med, I get 1000 for $6!!!

Pirate Girl, thank you so much for posting about Vet Med Direct. My oldest dog is on Rimadyl daily. I get 28 chewables (that last 14 days) for $42. I checked Vet Med Direct and I can get 60 for $46. WOW!! Thanks again!!

In defense of Medicap, Lance had told me in the past that he would match anyone's cost. I don't know if this is still true, but he has in the past.

I use Medicap for my pharmacy...never thought about seeing if they had my guy's 2 meds.

YVW to those who can use Vet Med Direct. Shipping is also very reasonable! They are very friendly as well. I am expecting meds anyday now as a matter-of-fact! My Vet wad so impressed by the price of the one med that he mentioned checking it out himself!
