Public Notice Johnston County Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater May 3, 2011 Smithfield, NC -- The Central Johnston County wastewater transmission system experienced a sewage spill on NC 42 west of Cornwallis Road on April 29, 2011, as a result of a break in a pipeline. An estimated 7,000 gallons of untreated wastewater flowed into Swift Creek. Upon discovery of the spill, the pipeline was immediately repaired. The spill has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Quality.
