I guess I am tired of dealing with two containers of dog food. I am thinking of feeding my 2.5 year old Brittany the same dry puppy food we give our 4 month old Jack. I know this may make her gain weight--but is there any other reason this is a bad idea? I would make the switch gradually and it is the same brand--one is just for reg dogs and the other is for puppies.

If the 2 1/2 year old isn't overweight, it won't harm her - main difference is the fat content (about 3 - 6% more in puppy food depending on the brand. Most of the vitamins and minerals are the same, or fairly close in most brands. If you are making the switch, GRADUALLY do it by mixing half of her old adult dog food with it - so the extra richness won't take her tummy by surprise in a negative way. If she is overweight, or real close to being perfect weight - I wouldn't do it. Weight for dogs is just like for people - much easier to pack on than take off :?

i do just the oposit, feed adult to puppy vet said it was fine as long as dog is healthy and eating a good quality dog food. it was hard keeping the older dogs from the pup food and the pup from adult food, I also mixed for a while my older dogs did gain some weight thats why i went other way around....and i agree always mix before switching to spare dog/pups upset stomach i have 6 dogs and all are in excellent health.
