Rabid Raccoon Warning!

This afternoon, a raccoon scaled our 5 foot high fence and attacked one of our dogs. The other dog (the not quite brave one) put up a huge fuss and my husband looked out to see the raccoon and the other dog in combat. He got them separated, and the raccoon climbed the fence and prepared to leap at my husband (stood on back legs, raised front legs). My husband fired off a round, grazed it, and it took off.

The dogs are OK after vet visit, rabies boosters (they were current, but this is standard practice), bath, etc.

However, the vet said the behavior meant she was sure the raccoon was rabid. Animal Control agreed. However, unless it attacks a person, they will not come trap it.

We live in Matthews Farm near where the woods separate our neighborhood from South Plantation.

Thanks for the info, that is SCARY! Glad your dogs are OK, raccoons can be really mean.
