Does anyone know of a quick way to find out what a company has planned when they file a rezoning petition? Son Lan Development has petitioned to have about 7 acres at NC 50 and Mt Pleasant Rd rezoned from Agricuture/Residential to "General Business District". I couldn't find any details on Johnston County's website, and Son Lan doesn't seem to have a website. I wonder if they even HAVE to tell the county what kind of business is planned for the property. I mean, it could be a Wal-Mart, a gas station, or it could even be an adult bookstore... And who would want a Wal-Mart or a gas station down the street?! (just kidding) Of course, I could just call the Planning Board on Monday, but in this technology age, I figured the info has to be out there on the internet somewhere...
There's already a gas station on that corner, Don Lee's store, on the Sanders Rd. side of 50, and a used car lot on the Mt. Peasant side.
Oh, yeah, I knew. But one gas station never stopped another. With the rezoning, they obviously have *something* planned. I'm just curious what it is.
Yes, they have to tell what is going in there. Well, technically by the rules as they are now, they do not have to tell the County whats going in there. However, the Planning Board and Board of Commissioners are now very hesitant to approve any rezoning from AR to GB without knowing whats going in there. So....Son-Lan will have to tell what is going in there or it will not get approved. No, it is not going to be an adult bookstore.
Update: I called the Planning Dept, and they don't know what's going in there. But, as Lindenul said, their plans should be revealed during the planning commission meeting next week.
Anyone going? The planning meeting for this is tonight at 7pm. I won't be home from work yet so was wondering if anyone else is going. Would love to know what they want with this land as I live right near there. SMP
Ok here is the scoop. Copied from the planning board's forums. Planning and Zoning Discussion Board Subject: RE: NC 50 and Mt. Pleasent Road Rezoning Author: Amanda Engesether () Date: 2006-11-22 08:27:00.0 At the meeting last night, the rezoning to General Business was recommended for approval to the commissoners. The applicant did change the zoning district to General Business Special Use District, which will require Son-Lan to come back to the board with site plans and the uses clearly defined at a later date. Son-Lan did put on the record he was speaking with a convenience store, a Dollar General, and a bank. The rezoning case will be heard by the commissoners for a final decision in January. The Special Use Permits and site plans to define the uses will follow in the same fashion at a later date.(public notices and hearings) No development can be started until Special Use Permits are approved and recorded. Just what we needed more retail crap spreading into residential areas SMP
