I just got one of these phone calls - and these guys are good...it's all total BS.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office today is warning people about a phone scam.

That followed a complaint made by a resident Tuesday regarding a message left on the answering machine saying he needed to call Paul Kuperstein and Associates regarding an important legal matter, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim suspected the message was part of a scam he saw on the Internet.

The caller was located in Canada. The scam, according to the sheriff's office, involves trying to convince victims they need to pay an outstanding bill from 2003 that does not exist.

A law enforcement officer called that number, and the person attempting the scam claimed someone had caused a bill of $988.98 by calling 900 numbers.

The caller also insists that the victim send a money order or cashier's check by Fed-Ex to prevent an expensive court procedure, the sheriff's office said.

Additional complaints may be found by going online by entering Paul Kuperstein, Law Offices, 620 Alden Road, Suite 208, Markham, Ontario. Canada, according to the sheriff's office. Phone is 905.474.3535.
