Has anyone heard that Johnston County schools are going back to the 7 period schedule next school year?

Working on my rising-freshman's schedule for next year...looks like it's still the block schedule. Haven't heard about any changes, yet...

If true it would be fine with me. I think the block schedule is idiotic. Kids dont pay attention for that long of time.

I was wondering the same thing. Is this something that affects elem students or just older kids?

It's high school...makes it more like college...Block schedule they have 4 classes a day and go for about an hour and a half to each class. One semester, they might have english, math, pe and band. The next semester they might have civics, science, a language and band (Band is an all-year long class)... it's harder because you may go a semester and a summer between math or language classes...more time to forget...The old way, we'd have 6 or 7 'periods' a day, one was usually a study hall, one was ALWAYS PE. The rest would be all your math, english, foreign language, and other electives.

It would be nice if the kids always had PE. Every day, all year.

That would be a big step toward improving the health of all children.

And find other ways to fund the schools besides pimping our kids to Pepsi and Papa John's.

They keep saying we are letting our kids get fat. WEll what about no P.E and then serving cheese slopped french fries in the school cafeteria? But no its the parents fault for not making the kids get out and exercise. LOL

So you are saying its totally the schools fault we have fat and obese kids? And there is no blame to be put on the parents?

I thought they had gotten rid of that stuff this yr. I know they took out the vending machines at West cafeteria.

When I went to HS, etc. we had PE everyday. No, I don't think it's the responsibility of the schools per say that children are obese. I think a lot of it has to do with parents letting their kids watch too much tv, sit on the pc all day and play video games. Unless it's raining or very very cold, my kids are usually outside hanging out with their friends.

No i don't think it is all the schools fault. BUT yes there is always a but...i do believe they need to be helping the situations too.Growing up I also had PE everyday. it included swimming, cross country skiing, flag football, softball etc and we did not have crap in the lunchrooms. (ok let me rephrase that) we had healthy but very disgusting tasting food. But we didnt have cheese fries, chick fillet, dominos pizza.

I agree they need PE and I think the school should serve better more nutritional foods. :hurray:

They still have pizza and chick sandwiches at the middle school. Ya know what's funny? My son brought his lunch all through elem school so he loves getting a hot plate meal at lunch. He even has favorites, and he says do not go anywhere near the bar-b-q'd chcken.
