My DS showed me this and all I can say is WOW!! http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=29815920 I think it makes a good argument for school uniforms!
Pretty goofy vid. He's just standing there. Don't you think he would have quite the hard time walking around with all that crap stuffed in his pants?
Yeah, but if he only took ONE of those weapons with him he would be able to move quite easily and still do some tremendous damage! The video is simply an illustration.
That just blew my mind!:shock: But Ready, do school uniforms not have pockets? Are they skin tight to where things can't be stuffed in them?
When my kids were in a private school that required uniforms, they had to wear khaki pants and school issued shirts and had to have their shirts tucked in. The pants weren't those baggy things either. I think it would be much harder to hide any kind of weapon in pants that aren't baggy and where the shirt is tucked in. About back packs... when I was in school, those things were unheard of. We had lockers that we actually had time between classes to use and we all just carried our books in our arms. Somehow we survived.
I always thought uniforms were good for schools. It makes the kids learn about one another and make decisions about friends on a "real" level rather than by what they are wearing or how much money it may look like they have. That idea about the kids losing their "individuality" does not hold water to me. They have the weekends and other "off" times from school for their individuality. And they really don't lose it anyway. They just have to show it in a more human and real way rather than in a superficial way. I think there would be less fights, less stereotyping, less competition, to mention a few. And yes, there are probably downsides for it but I think the benefits far outweigh them. Heck, with the amount of money paid out on name brand clothes and shoes the kids want theses days, you could purchase 3 to 4 uniforms. I'd rather see my tax money going for that rather than alot of the other stuff the schools do. I think it would save money in the long run and make it more of a learning enviroment rather than an "America's Next Top Model" runway. Last I checked, you go to school to learn, not for a fashion show.
I don't think the school should not have the right to ask parents to purchase uniforms. The uniforms are expensive and costly. The last time I can remember the school mentioning uniforms the slacks were around 75.00 each and the shirts around 40.00. My question again what about the kids whose parents can't afford to purchase them who is going to buy them. Not me!!!! twitch
Isn't this why we pay taxes? Even if you buy 4 shirts and 4 slacks, that is $460. If you make the kids take care of the stuff, change after school, wear the pants more than one time before washing, wash with care, Hang instead of put in the dryer, you can make them last a year. How do you think those parents who can't afford uniforms make regular clothes last a long time? Those parents can't go and buy regular clothes evey month any more than they could a uniform. $460/year. That's less than what regular clothes can run in 6 months!!! And you know the kids always want new this or that. Asn that "new this or that" is what the kids look at when they "size each other up" so to speak. Uniforms in the long run, if cared for like someone with some amount of sense, are cheaper and prevent alot of problems peer wise. You have to give me that.
And alot of schols just give a unifrom code, khakis and collared shirts. Those canbe bought anywhere, even thrift stores. Waaaaay cheaper than a trip to Hot Topic or Abercrombie & Fitch.
where the heck do you buy your kids clothes at? If you spend that kind of money I want to go shopping with you. Can you adopt me? Here I am my poor butt shopping at kohl's digging through the end of the year specials for my kids. Hollister's is not in my budget anyways. twitch
I have a friend that has a child in a school in Johnston county that has a strict uniform policy. Just to let you know it doesn't matter about the uniforms the kids will still size up other kids. They can do this based on the shoes they wear, there hair style and there religion so folks paying outrageous amount for uniforms is not going to stop that. A good butt smacking will stop that and that starts at home with the parents. twitch
No, that video just makes a case for students to wear skin-tight, spandex clothing...and metal detectors at all school entrances.
I was waiting for a clown to come out of his pants! :jester: Seriously the first thing that came to mind was the clown bus at the circus.
One thing is for certain...that kid is going to be rather obvious because when the bell rings, he'll be the only one that can't sit down!
Well I never said that it would solve the problem completely, but it would help. Of course kids will still have their issues with each other. I think uniforms would tone it down alot however. I forget which school it was a few years ago that was in the news, but a student stabbed another student over some high priced jacket or shirt. In any event, no matter where or when it was, it happened. I think by the use of uniforms it jaust makes kids look at each other for who they are versus what they wear.
Damn, what good was the jacket after it had stab marks and blood on it? Cutting off their nose to spite their face.
