I can't find the thread on this and I am pretty upset but I remember a discussion on searching the shelters. I took my new dogs to be neutered today and one escaped when my husband picked them up this evening. He is petrified of pretty much everyone; I will be amazed if anyone can get near him. Anyway, I just wanted to know if it is sufficient to call the shelters everyday or should I bodily go and look for him? Also I know to search the one off 64 and the shelter on 70 but should i bother looking at the adoption center? Finally, I had him microchipped today b/c as I told the vet, "we'll never be able to catch him if he ever gets away"-if I enroll him now will they have our info if he was by some chance picked up tomorrow? It is the HOmeAgain system. Thanks in advance.

Go and look daily. Otherwise, they might not recognize your dog from your verbal description over the phone.

Thanks. I went to the Animal Control and SPCA sites and got more info-I was too rattled to think very clearly yesterday. He was lost at Tryon Rd and Wilmington St. in Raleigh so you all likely wouldn't come across him but just in case: He is a mostly black with some white feist/terrier mix(although he is a pretty long legged feist IMO). He has a smooth short coat and is 22 lbs. He was wearing a blue collar. He is terrified of people so I don't know how anyone will catch him but maybe Animal Control could get him. My husband, the vet tech, and another man couldn't corner him. He does respond to women and treats a little sometimes. His name is Mo but we only had him for 2 weeks so b/t that and being scared he didn't respond much. He was just neutered and chipped yesterday(2/29) so has a fresh incision. Thanks again for any info.

oh pickle I am so so sorry.

YES register the microchip. It is a computerized system and the info will be entered immediately. Both shelters scan for chip and then they will have your number to call you.

Did you fill out a lost report at both shelters? If you have a picture you can ad to lost report that would be good too. You could also make up some posters for around there.

You dont have to check the adoption center yet. Strays have to be held for 5 business days, but based on his temperament, he wouldn't go up for adoption even then since he is so scared.

If you can get me a picture I can let my animal control officer friends know too.

    Good luck!!:grouphug:

I registered the microchip last night and filled out reports. We are going to the shelters today. I am going to try and post a picture here but don't know if it will work. I am also going to develop some pictures today for flyers and would be more than willing to get one to you if that will help at all. Thanks so much.
