We have a local friend and her husband (Selma!) serving in Iraq... here is a letter we received from her and I thought I would pass it along, just in case someone else was interested! (if you would like her address please let me know... She asked me NOT to have it on the internet) Dear Supporters of the Military, Thank you for your support of our troops. We are just past the halfway point in our deployment to Iraq and have been humbled by the support we have received from everyone back home. We are beginning to plan for the Christmas season here in Iraq. It is our goal to be able to give out Christmas presents on Christmas Day to those who want one. We are trying to collect 2000 presents. We are asking for gallon size Ziploc bag or shoe box size care packages / presents. Enclosed is a list of ideas of items to include in the packages. Please send the packages to the address at the bottom of this letter. Please pass this information along to anyone that wishes to help us with our goal. Thank you for helping us make this a joyous holiday season for our troops. THANK YOU, I have a brother and a cousin stationed in IRAQ. I will send a bunch of stuff now that I have a definate address. I got a case of Priority Mail Boxes from USPS and I will start filling them. They need all the support we can give them, they are getting quite depressed. What they are doing seems endless to them.:idea::hurray:
Thanks!!! I am sure it will be SO appreciated. Anyone who wants to help but is intimidated by shipping, we can work it out to meet and I will ship!
HELLO AGAIN!! I want you to know that I shared the letter from IRAQ with many people and organizations. I figured what I could do was just a drop in the bucket and that we needed more help... She is asking for simple things like food and water flavorings that is menial compared to what they are doing for us. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS!!! ANNE:grouphug:
Thanks, that is a good idea!!! I wonder if any teachers would want to make a 'classroom' project out of it! It would be inexpensive as far as each child donating an item or two! Anyone have connections??
Thanks for putting this up. My wife and I would certainly like to take advantage of this opportunity. Our son will deploy to Afghanistan in January so this hits close to home for us. I will also share this with our church. Thanks again.
PLEASE do not share her address on anything public, she asked me to remove it. If you want to send her something, please PM me and I will give you her address personally.
If you need boxes to ship, contact USPS they provide special boxes for shipping to the military. The boxes are free, labels and paperwork also. You only have to pay postage to New Jersey and the military will ship items the rest of the way. It's only $11 to Iraq and the weight does not matter. That's cool........... PLEASE HELP HER....:hurray:
Could someone PM me the address to ship to? This would be something I'd like for our family to participate in. We had family in the service there last year too.
Bump.... I am sending another box out next week if anyone has some stuff collected, but doesn't want to pay for shipping!:lol:
