Hey guys, this year, for the first time, i will be limited to doing all my Christmas shopping online  (i am so gonna miss all the crowds and running around looking for that perfect present for each person).

Anyway, any of you guys have any experience in the matter and a preference for which site is best. i have heard a lot about shopzilla, amazon, and a couple others and hoping to get headed in the best direction.

    TIA :D

I've used Amazon for years and never had a problem. I usually won't buy from them (or anyone) unless they are offering free shipping though, cause I'm cheap!

I've also bought from Gap, Old Navy & JC Penny many times with no problems. JC Penny is offering free shipping on orders over $49 until 11/29. If you buy from them, be sure to use the promo code EXTEND when checking out.

    Have fun shopping! :D

I've been shopping Amazon for years with no problems, also. I always get my order over $25 to get the free shipping.

Which site is best depends on what you're shopping for.

Name brand stores (Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, and the like) will have a bit higher prices than some of the smaller sites, but they're more secure. However they are known to run out of stock and send backorder notices (not very fun to open a present on Christmas only to find a slip that says the gift will arrive on January 4th).

Personally I prefer smaller sites, but I'm willing to take a little risk. They'll generally have better prices and almost always guaranteed to have the item in stock, but you really need to keep an eye out for scam sites. As a novice, I'd suggest sites that you know (especially those that also have brick and mortar stores).

You might also try sites like BizRate.com and Best-Price.com or even SmartShopper.com. These sites are not stores, but robots that will take your search item and find the sites that have the best prices.

Gee whiz, neighborLEE, that's a long list.

Kaci, I have shopped Amazon for about 6 years now. I like the prices and most items are shipped for free if you spend $25. Shipping time has always been fast for me.

I used B&N.com this year some since they take Paypal and I can spend my eBay earnings there and at PetDepot.com (or PetSmart, one of them) also.

And Ready2cmyking mentioned something else important... Coupon codes! Always check for codes before you purchase!

Just google coupon code for sites.

I have done a good deal of online shopping and if you are looking for good buys using coupon codes I receommend you check out the NBC 17 story I did with Kim Genardo last week (no, this is not shameless promotion - it's just too much info to include here 8) ). Here is the link to the text:

    http://www.nbc17.com/yourlife/10382239/detail.html

My rule of thumb is to make sure the company is reputable, has clear contact info on the website (including address and phone number) and has a secure server for payment.

Don't shop online without first looking for coupon codes. Taget has one out for 10% off right now, restaurant.com has one out for 60% off right now. Search at www.gonicofish.com for a list of tons of vaild coupons codes to save lots of $$.

Try to go through a site like www.upromise.com for even more savings. When you purchase through upromise as a upromise member, a % of your purchase is put back into a money market acct that can be transferred to a 529 fo rcollege savings. I recommend it for anyone who knows anyone who may go to college one day! You can save for your kids, grandkids, nieces, neighbors, whoever - at no cost to you.

Good luck and let us know if you find any awesome buys! And I hope you are getting around a little better these days!

    Faye :)
