Should they shackle juveniles?

I'm thinking it might make the entire expereince even more unpleasant and discourage them from doing anything to end up back in court.

Don't get mad at me on this one...

Yes I think it is warranted depending on the crime. If children want to start crime early in their life - let them know what to look forward to if they continue their way of life.

Let them learn! So many juveniles today are headed in the wrong direction - sadly they need to learn from the law if not their parents.

I'd say let the punishment fit the crime. If a juvenile commits a malicious or violent felony, shackle him for certain. For lesser offenses, no, I do not advocate it. Handcuffs, back seat police-car ride and detainment should be enough for lesser offenses. If that, along with standing before a judge doesn't get through to them, nothing probably will unfortuately. Many kids today lack humility and respect for others and that is a big part of where they go wrong.

Since these folks have much more experience with the offenders and their potential for making bad descisions in court, they should have nore of a say in whether to shackle them or not. If it prevents them from running and adding more chareges it would seem to be in their best interest.
