My husband just got home from Raleigh. He said that I40 was a parking lot. He got off at Jones Sausage and took back roads. He heard on the radio that there was a sinkhole on 40 east near 70 and is completely closed. Just thought anyone heading that way tomorrow would want a heads up.

they were working on it when i went to work tonight. apparently they found a 6 inch deep sinkhole and decided it needed to be fixed in case some fool doing 90++ hits the hole and wipes out because of it

Nope! :x Raleigh appt this am and was closed on the way and closed coming back home. You have to exit onto 70E or you could just take 70/White Oak and come down Cornwallis like I did.
    What a pain.

    Latest from WRAL.COM -
"GARNER, N.C. -- State Department of Transportation officials said Sunday it could be Monday morning before they reopen a six-mile stretch of Interstate 40 near Garner that has been closed since Friday night. ..."

That's the only way I ever go. I can't take it driving any other way to Cary.

    It's open now.

Someone said it was a busted water main, but the radio said didn't know what caused it. Anyone know?

According to what I heard on WRAL this morning, it was caused by someone drilling (or digging) a septic system.
